Hello there everyone.

I'm interested in getting MOUS and A+ certifications to improve my opportunities to land a great job as a corporate or vocational trainer.

I have a chance to get this certification for "free." However, I have to prove that such certification is needed and how it will make a difference in a starting salary. Also I have to provide proof that it will enhance career advancement.

I recently had a chance to view the Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Online and they seem only interested in MCSEs and MCPs, etc. There is even a report of how such certification can impact salaries and advancement. Can anyone direct me to such a website for Trainers and the MOUS certification?

I would appreciate any help given

Have a nice day and good luck in your chosen professions.

Here is the site for MOUS AI (Authorized Instructor):

http://www.microsoft.com/trainingan...bSite=cert/mous

I started off in this business as an Application Instructor. I have never been limited by not being a MOUS AI. The training center's I deal with do not teach those courses so they don't care.

The A+ should help you more especially in the vocational arena.

The MOUS knowledge will definately help you by guiding you through structured knowledge and ensuring that you stand above your peers. Justification... I would think that it will start you in the high end of the highering pool but without teaching experience not above that. The strength that I would focus on is the baseline knowledge you would attain. Call a training center and see what they say -- especially a global one like www.trainingassociates.com. See if they bill out higher for MOUS AI.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Yes, the next step was to check out the website. Which I did.

Do you know of any qualitative data that can support the benefits of the MOUS AI certification in the way of salary and benefits?

I need this to include in my report.

Thanks,

If you are willing to do a little leg work, you might try looking at http://computerjobs.com. Look through the various job listings for the ones with keyword of MOUS or A+. That should help you get an idea, I would think, of the impact.

That is a good idea. I looked through some of my older trade magazines and couldn't find anything. You are right when you said most refer to technical trainers and not application instructors. I called a buddy that runs a local school and he basically echoed what I said. They don't teach the Microsoft Authorized classes so the AI doesn't mean much, but the MOUS shows a base level of knowledge that he felt would flag the resume for an interview.

I have been snooping through the archives looking for information to help me test and I came across some awesome advise from Paisley. Thought of you when I read the thread:

Farcaster, thanks for that computerjobs.com website. I'm still exploring it. Takes a bit of time what with all the links.

SasiSan, I saw that thread before starting mine. I do appreciate the added benefits of the MOUS, A+ combination and will take that into consideration. I do believe that if I get both successfully, it will "flag my resume" for more teaching opportunities.

I've found a book entitled "Microsoft Certification Careers" that could explain salary differences and job opportunities for different certifications. I'll go to the library to check it out. No way will I buy it though. If there was someway I could get it off the computer for free, I'd jump at it, but I'll wait for the public library to catch up to technology.

I spoke with a counselor at The Career Center and she quoted a difference of 15,000 dollars in annual salary for those with MOUS versus those without and when I asked her where that figure came from she told me Dice.com. I've been looking in there and haven't found anything. Oh, well.

The report is due Wednesday, late morning. Thank you all for your valuable help.
