Author Class vs Self-teaching?

I'm planning on taking a MOUS certification class; and I was wondering if it was something I could learn on my own, and just get the Exam prep books. The only thing is, I'm probably the only person on earth who has never used an MS office product. That's why I think I may need an instructor.

Is MOUS easy enough to study on your own?

Only you can decide if you need an instructor. Look at past experiences. Do you learn more if you study on your own or do you learn more if you have the guidance of an instructor.

Talk is cheap. The best training is experience. Use it or lose it.

The best way I have found is from putting experience onto paper, with exam guides to help me learn key points. I learn quite well on my own, but need help to get through exams, which is where exam guides come in.

Each to their own . . .

I think the best way is what environment you learn best, I think self study works well. Especially if you have a site like this where you can bounce ideas of one another.

So for those that got the certs... what was the best resource or resources that you found got you through?

online forums, practice exams, net research...........

I passed all of my Master CIW Designer exams (all over 90%) without a single textbook or teacher. Obviously, its different for other certs though. Like I'm doing MCSD now and there's no way i could pass without books.

I haven't done MOUS(nor do i intend to), but if its as easy as CIW, just learn the programs and check out forums and practice exams. Should pass easily..........

There are several good books for MOUS-Access details, but I only found one that provided hands-on practice tests. That book is Prentice Hall's "MOUS Test Preparation Guide for Access 2000" by Susan L. Wise, Jack Stapleton, and Colene L. Coldwell. The accompanying CD covers all the MOUS questions in a style that's nearly identical to the test. It will also walk you through any skills you need help with.

The PH MOUS books (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) are a bit hard to find at walk-in book stores, but they're easy enough to find at online bookstores.

As always, study doesn't replace experience, but together they can be dynamite.
