| Greetings everyone and happy belated new year!
I seem to have an odd problem with Outlook and was wondering if anyone else has seen this... I have an HP Pavilion PIII850 fresh out of the box. The only thing I've added to the computer is Office Professional 2000. I have configured my email client to use Outlook and everything seems to work okay, with the exception of sending attachments. I can send and receive emails and I can even receive messages with attachments, I just can't send attachments from my Outlook client. Some of the other facts that may help here is also knowing that the OS is Windows Me (if you haven't seen Millenium Edition yet, you really need to - it's a wonderful blend of the best of Windows '98 and Windows 2000 Professional). This is a normal OEM install fresh from HP. Anyone got any ideas? or heard of any bugs?
Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,

| Hi,
I'm not sure, it seems to me that I remember hearing about a bug between Windows ME and Outlook 2000 - but I'm not positive.
I have alot of resource here, and I will check it out and have an answer for you by some time this evening.

| I have to ask you a couple of questions:
1. Do the computers you are receiving e-mails with attatchments from run Windows ME and Outlook 2000?
2. Is it possible that the attatchments you are sending are too big?
3. Do you send the e-mails with attatchments and receive them back as undeliverable, or are you unable to send them in the first place?
If you could answer these questions for me, it would help me in providing you with the best possible answer.

| I'm sorry to bombard you with questions, but it will help me to give you a better answer.
1. Have you downloaded the available service packs for Office 2000 from Microsoft's site? Apparently their are many bugs in Outlook 2000 as well as Access 2000.
2. Would AOL by chance be your regular e-mail client?

| Thanks for all the questions. Here's the answers...
PCs that I am receiving messages from are running a combination of Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 98 - one is running Outlook 2000 (win98) and the other is using Outlook Express. I can send the same attachment from my win98 machine, so this rules out size. Unable to send the message only when there is attachments - without attachments everything works fine. I've downloaded all the applicable patches for Office and my email client is an @home network via a cable modem. Can't blame aol for this one Any other ideas? | |

| Sorry, but I have some more questions:
1. Are you using Word 97 as your e-mail editor?
2. Are the messages being stripped en route.
IE. Does the message arrive at the destination without the attachment, or is the attachment unreadable when it gets there?
IF so, do not use Rich Text for your e-mail attachments - use only Plain Text or HTML.
I know that sounds like a strange fix, but it is a problem that many people are having in the newsgroups, and it seems to be working.

| Not using Word 97 - I have Office 2000 Professional installed and using Word 2000 as email editor. I have also turned that feature off and still have the problem. I send messages in plain text format. The message is not getting to its destination at all. It never leaves my Outbox I think I have encountered a unique bug with Microsoft's products. I just can't figure this one out. Al my settings are identical on two separate machines. One works and one doesn't. The only difference is that one is running Windows 98se and the other is running Windows Millenium edition. I'm on the verge of wiping the system clean and loading Windows 2000 on it. I wanted to play with ME a while, but this problem is extremely frustrating. I have already blown away the system and ran a fresh install of the OS and Office apps. What gives? Any more questions for me?
Thanks for thinking about this one for me, too! |
