I want to pursuit CCIE certification, but don't know which track I should concentrate in. And they are Security, Service Provider or R/S.
Thank you much for any advice!

I am just a CCNA and passed one Advanced Router test. Another word, I am the beginner in Cisco world.
Which CCIE track is in high demand now a day?
Thanks!

As a CCNA without a lot of experience with Cisco gear, any CCIE track is out of the question for about 3-4 years. If you can make it happen faster than that, major kudo's to you.

A professional level certification, coupled with progressively growing hands-on experience, would go a long ways towards preparing you to think about the CCIE.

Which professional level track you pursue really does depend upon what technologies you will be working with on a daily basis. CCNP is the most recognized of the professional level certifications and prepares you for the CCIE R&S track. CCIP is the internet provider track and begins prep for the CCIE Service Provider track. CCSP is the security cert and begins your preparations for the CCIE Security track.

Trust me... unless you have thousands of disposable dollars to waste on failed lab exams and practice labs and courses, you really don't want to think about the CCIE until you've worked with Cisco gear DAILY for several years.

Thank you for your input.
I knew someone could give me a good advice.
I think I will try to do the CCSP since I am kind of love the security stuff.
Thanks again!

You can spend $1,500 on 8 routes/pix/switch from ebay and get your ccie in less than a year, after you make it, you can sell your equipment at the same price. Its an inve$tment Or you can spend $5000 for a 5 day class!

locaso, I would consider not making that statement until you have done it or have the number of someone who has.

To the original poster, the CCIE lab seems to average 3 tries at least for the last few people I knew that passed it. So add at least 2 tries at 1300 ish plus travel

Well, you are right some may take longer some may not, I think it depends on the hours you practice and your own motivation. But definetely consider getting your lab.

O.K. people,

below is my plan since I am always interested in security:

CISSP
CEH
MCSE2K3 SECURITY/DBA
CCSP
Wait 2- 3 years then CCIE Security

Does this sound doable? Thanks!

I wouldn't wait so long between CCSP and CCIE.

Try to avoid the gap. Some CCIEs recommended me that i should make my concepts strong and then 500 hours lab practice will be okay with experience

is 500 hrs enough....will this be enough! How many years of experience do you have. Not saying that it is impossible. I just don't know. My goal is a 1000 hrs of my own time, than go to live with Heinz Ulm for 10 days.

each person is different
without sounding silly
it takes as many hours as you need to get 80 points !!!

If in the wait period there is an thing called 'Get job and do for living', 2 year gap is a good idea. If you are not at some point planning to do for a living before getting a CCIE, cant help.

security is the hottest field right now and i would go for that.

invest in a home lab and you can always sell it, learn pix well...i have a 515 and a 501 in my lab....
