Hey CCIE candidates.

I am in the process of ordering a detail skills lab for my 1st lab attempt in Raleigh, NC at the end of May. The question I have is? I am currently evaluating Boson and http://www.hellocomputers.com/, at this time I have purchase a one-day lab subscription from Boson. The lab subscription that I purchase from boson presents very challenging scenarios and I am happy with purchase. However, I am somewhat concern with the detail skills lab because Boson doesn’t offer dedicated remote access to configure the scenarios. Such as, Hellocomputers who offer remote access also Hellocomputers partnered with http://www.racktimerentals.com/ who offers a cheaper alternative to router remote rental access. Giving the information I have presented above. What would someone in my position decide on? The reservation I have is if I purchase the Boson detail skill labs am I truly going to be the test scenarios. The company I am employed with does have a dedicated lab for me to train on, but it’s not complete. I want to be to test everything and I want to be to spend at least 80 hrs in a full lab. Will I be able to do this with Boson?
The company I am working for is paying my first attempt so I am trying to construct as many scenarios as possible and hopefully come out with a number the first time. Thanks and I look forward to all valid inputs/comments.

Have you registered on Groupstudy?? This would be my top tip.

On Groupstudy a lot of people who have passed first time quoted IP Expert as the ideal source of lab scenarios.

Many of the online lab resellers are also able to emulate IP Experts lab scenarios, some even have templates with IP addressing preconfigured (well most of it ;-)).

I can't advise on the two you have discussed as I have never seen anybody say they have used them.

Good luck.

hellocomputers, ccbootcamp, then ipexpert.net. This is my personal opinion.

ccbootcamp is the best for training you on concepts regardless of the lab test.

Hellocomputers and IPExpert.net are more oriented toward the lab-like scenarios. The problem here is that, if you don't see it, it would be difficult to think of a solution. Not like ccbootcamp.

Beware that most of the scenarios they offer have some mistakes from either the configuration side, or in placing the question. So, don't take anything for granted.

I would say go for any of these labs, solve all scenarios at least twice, and make sure to cross-reference with CCO material. If you do this and understand each command you type, train on time management, I guarantee you to pass the first attempt.

Thanks Mat P and Mosam for your rapid response to my question. I will also consider IPExpert in my consideration process. I look forward to many more comments and I will make my finally decision on Friday. I will post my journey to the CCIE lab date in this forum. So keep an eye out for this.

Ok, fellow team members thanks for the input, but I decided to purchase the Boson detailed LAB subscription. I will post my review of the detailed skills.

i hope it's not too late ...
but i haven't seen too many posts on groupstudy saying " i used boson " and passed for lab prep.
that is not a knock on boson,
i love their practive tests.
what i have heard is:

the 3 best training classes are (no order)
netmasterclass.net
nli (network learning)
and cyscoexpert.com

ipexpert seems to be the "most currently relevant" practice for what's going on in the lab now.
hello computer's has a good rep
boson is new to the lab game
so maybe they haven't got the good press yet.

Hows ccbootcamp ? I had heard their passing rate is very high .

I would agree with u darthfeces that Boson is new to game when it comes to CCIE labs. However, I am shock with how many labs are presented with the Boson booklet and this is what really help me base my conclusion. I am schedule for remote access shortly so I will post my review and comments of this the Boson CCIE study guides. Until next time..Keep routing!!!

haseeb...
I believe that NLI (Network Learning) that was talked about above, is the same as ccbootcamp.

ccbootcamp = NLI = Netwok Learning

I haven't heard of it. But I am sure there are some in Europe specially London and Brussles.

Btw, did anybody try hellocomputers Security lab book ver. 2? I haven't tried it myself, and would like to have some opinions about that from those who tried it.

I have the opportunity to take a 1 week bootcamp for the CCIE Lab. Money is no object, but can only be one week long anywhere in the US. Which is the best with the latest equipment and latest lab info.

i'm going to quote myself from earlier in the thread:

if you've passed your written subscribe to groupstudy's ccie lab list.
there you'll find out what's going on in the lab in real time from the people who are failing it .... and passing.
the best practice would be to get yourself a lab and buy ipexpert's lab subsription.
when you've gone through those attend a boot camp. go too early and you'll waste the effort by learning in the bootcamp instead of getting ready for the lab.
i know, my written will expire in june and i'd rather let it expire and go to cyscoexpert later then fail now.
that's just me

I have setup my own home lab with two Cat3550's and 7 various 2500's. I will go through all the material I can on my own, and hopefully top it off with the best bootcamp I can find. Planning it in about 6 months. Thanks for your info, it is helpful

I found that www.ccie4u.com had the best rates and all the equipment needed for the CCIE lab exam. They have dual catalyst 3550, ATM, voice and everything else needed. If you need rack rental time check them out at http://ccie4u.com

As this thread has come up again - I can vouch for netmasterclass.net lab book - it's called do-it.
http://www.netmasterclass.net/site/doit1.php

They are all 8 hrs and have a description on every question, explaining why they did it that way. Because they have gone n to this detail they appear to be error free.

don't forget the ipexpert workbook !
Mat P

2003-08-25, 1:38 pm

I've worked from IP Expert, IMO there are way too many mistakes, and the support was touchy - I also failed 3 times working from them
darthfeces

2003-08-25, 2:01 pm

whoa .... are you using 4.0

i've seen people as recently as yesterday who passed and swear by it ....
Mat P

2003-08-25, 2:33 pm

It was v4, and I agree that lot's of people swear by it - I also know that it was just one of my resources and it didn't work for me, I know several people who have them and most feel the same, unfortunately most brought it on my recomendation!!

I did get a lot out of the IP Expert labs as there are some neat tricks, having exhausted them and not yet passed I feel that the do-it labs may be just what I need, and as it's written by the folk's over at NMC I reckon it will be pretty good.

I'm sure you agree there is no single recipe for CCIE.

Funny you should say that....

I start a 6 month contract in the Middle East very soon and will have plenty of money after that

I have been speaking to someone who has been on it and recommends it. Have you been or plan on going on it?
darthfeces

2003-08-26, 12:31 pm

yes i am
though i've had a setback
i tore my achilles tendon playing soccer
had surgery and have to recover from that injury.
i have to re-take my written and will go later this year or early next.
don't be discouraged i personally know two people who failed several times until they attended netmaster.

cyscoexpert also has helped many people get over the top.
i'm leaning toward cyscoexpert because of the individualized training

Do you mean football??? Sports no good for you....Hope it heals pretty quickly for you.

I'm not discouraged I know I'll get my numbers soon - work have hacked me off, by stopping me studying when I was so close without any reason, they never realised how hard it was. I decided to take the summer off studying and planned on getting back in to it next month.

But now I have my new job/business to build.....Once I start studying though there will be no stopping me
