I'm looking into adding ATM to my CCIE R/S lab. Is there a cheaper way of doing that or LS1010 is the only option?

Have you looked into renting rack time??? The ATM kit is very expensive, a lot of the online rack time is excellent value for the likes of this and voice.

If you are determined to buy an ATM switch (which you won't have to configure in your lab), you don't have to stick to Cisco - A Nortel Centillion should give you the features you need and should be a lot cheaper than a lightstream - though obviously it is a Cisco exam!!

Good luck.

he's right
spend your money elsewhere ....
like a 3550 switch or on one of the new series routers being tested 2600,3600.
atm doesn't justify the expense for the part it plays.

Appreciate your answers. Do I need to buy two 3550 EMI's or one will suffice?

2 3550/24 would be awesome ,
but you can work with one

He's right.....

I feel that one would be sufficient - as long as you know how to do ISL/DOT1Q trunking and VTP and are confident on this you should be fine for the lab. You could test these with cheaper switches, or using online labs if needed.

I am not sure how the situation will be after the latest changes, specially int he security side.. they are adding new equipment, so, why not focusing more on ATM.. ?!
