Dear All,

I'm having a problem regarding the IP addresses leasing to the client PC in my LAN, My Microsoft DHCP server let's say have
10 Scopes for different VLANs [Subnets], the problem is when a PC in VLAN 100 request IP address it gets and IP that is from another scope other than the IP addresses it must get.

The Client PCs are connected to the 2950 edge switch and the Edge Switches are connected to the 6513 core switch via Uplink GBIC interface, i had configured the IP helper address under each interface VLAN configured on the core switch..

Any Clue..!!

Hi Tamer,

I would assume that you don't have any other DHCP server running in the network and you have the IP address defined in the "ip helper-address" as your only DHCP server, right?

What VLAN DHCP belong to? Is it a separate VLAN like any other VLAN or is it VLAN1?

And how is your traffic routed to the DHCP server? Is it through VLAN1?

Hey how are you Mosam?

You are correct this DHCP is the only server and the configuration of the IP helper Address is configured correctly with the IP address of the DHCP server..

The VLAN of the DHCP is another VLAN other than the VLANs of the CLients..

About how the Traffic is routed to the DHCP server, i guess that when a client PC is broadcasting to get an IP address from the DHCP the core switch using the IP helper address connect to the DHCP through unicast.. and since i had configured the Interface VLAN command for all the VLANs on the core switch this mean that the VLANs are considered as directly connected networks..

Mosam, what do you see..?

What I meant Tamer how is the DHCP server routed from the switch L3 module? Is it directly connected to one of the VLAN interfaces? i.e. For example interface VLAN20 IP address is 200.200.200.1.. and the DHCP is 200.200.200.20?

If this is the case, then, I would be sure it is not a networking problem, and you may need to look into the the NT Server DHCP configs itself.

Dear Mosam, this is actually what is configured the DHCP is connected directly to one of the VLAN interfaces.. you know the DHCP is connected directly to the Core Switch via Fibre cable..

I told Servers Guys that it's not a networking problem but i just want to make sure that i didn't miss anything..

Thanks Mosam,

Dear All,

I found the Problem, this problem will not appear except when a mobile user left his place and try to plug his laptop in an outlet where this outlet is not in the same VLAN as the 1st outlet.. Here the Microsoft DHCP somehow cash the mac-address for the labtop's network card and then lease the same IP address that was taken before which is not the one it should lease...
