1- Would passing all CCNP/CCDP exams be enough preparation for passing CCIE written test?
2- How much efforts/time do you need on top of CCNP/CCDP knowledge to pass this exam?
3- What is the best preparation material for CCIE written exam?

Thank you darthfeces, mkhan for your prompt replies, the mentioned list of readings is more than enough for any person to pass any test, I thought CCNP/CCDP info. with one CCIE preparation test Book would be enough to pass the test.

how about the test practice documents from Boson, and others, would it add value to the list of material you mentioned?

How about the Lab exam, would a bootcamp be enough?

How about the Lab exam, would a bootcamp be enough?

It totally depends. If you have a ton of experience, maybe. Generally it takes hundreds of hours of lab time working on complex scenerios. In my opinion, what you've learned through the CCNA/NP gives you about 10% of what you will need to know to pass the Lab.

Also, when you pass the written don't trick yourself into thinking that you are ready for the Lab. They are completely different tests. Heck, I passed the written without a single day of real experience. If it was easy everyone would do it.

TCPIP.... I am reading Doyle magic sets + above URL, most of the people who have passed the written says that the url's are the best prep after all it is cisco official content. Beside that Boson test 3 by Dennis is the one most feeded back among all other prep tests written for cciew exam... for LAB I am sure broad range of hands on expereince is required you have to spend at least 5 hours a day and estimate at least 8-10 months after passing your written exam.

I will probably buy the either ccbootcamp compenion book or ip expert lab work book to do the home practise... I can not say much more then that as i am still travelling on the same road where you are.

cheers and good luck for your exams.

Thank you guys,

I'll definitely keep your advices in mind, one last question

Would CCNP/CCDP/CCSP and lots of other different certificates compare to the CCIE title as a career, giving the time it would take someone to finish CCIE?

and How would CCIE change your life after spending all these years working on it?

I'm still hesitant about keep running after CCIE or stop at the proffissional level and try to gain as much experience with other technologies and vendors ( i'm talking about vertical vs. horizontal knowledge).

From someone who has been working on their first CCIE for 10 months, for me the CCIE isn't just for career advancement, because I wouldn't leave my current job anytime soon. But I have reached the highest levels in Microsoft, Cisco, and many others. The CCIE was just the next logical step. If you are looking for future and career advancement don't overlook the Proffessional level certifications with Cisco, they are great stepping stones and will help in career advancement. Take your time and do them right, get everything you can out of them, it will help you in the end.

i passed the written 2 years ago in december
and woke up to the truth ...... i was nowhere near ready.

i got ccie practical studies and had not mastered frame relay.
as caslow's book says you've got to master setting up layer2 first or layer3 won't work !!!
i'm re taking the written before the end of the year and i am attending a bootcamp in january.

darthfeces, have you taken other bootcamps, or will this be your first?

I have been going through the Practical Studies Volume 1 by Karl Solie, and the ipexpert.net workbook. A dual CCIE I met last year told me that you need to be able to do all the labs in those books, but in 1/4th the time they give you. So I am in the same boat as you. Looking for a good bootcamp.

as i see it there are 4 that are the best

bruce caslow's
netmasterclass.net
you should be almost ready for this.

ipexpert.net

cyscoexpert.com
best one on one

and internetworkexpert.com
they are new and formed by a former employee
of ipexpert and cyscoexpert.

join groupstudy's ccie lab list and you'll get a real pulse of what's going on from the people who are passing
