new written exam release

| I've been studying my butt off, and will be taking it on 8/6/02. The new test looks to be a real different animal. 150 Q's, with 3 hours.
One interesting item was the inclusion of IPv6 on the new exam. I wonder how in depth they will get.

| I'm almost bulletproof on the old exam. Not good with ipv6, and not much study material to pick from yet that isn't *brutally* dry. (even compared to my current Cisco Press books. lol)
*sigh*

| Doyle's, Routing TCP/IP vol. II has a rather large section on IPv6. | |

| Anybody know of any other good books for IPv6? | |

| Hi
I just went for the Exam on 15/8/02. Flung it very badly. The questions are totally different from the previous ones. They ask a lot on scenarios. Troubleshooting and reading packets. IPV6 the most 1Q.
Anyone got any study links on the new format?
Please help as I am trying it again next month. Thanks

| damian, just out of curiosity have u skipped the CCNP and going for the CCIE written ?? | |

| Yap, I skipped my CCNP and went for my CCIE directly. | |
|
| damian, then i put my image right, you are trying to catch too many things at the same time which i think might be a lot tougher since you have not done your basics of CCNP for the CCIE written.
Dont want to discourage you in anyway, CCIE is highly respectable and is not at all easy, if you thought it was a cakewalk i think you are mistaken. I suggest you get hold of some CCNP materials in order to get ur foundation strong b4 you try again.
Goodluck for your re-attempt!

| Thanks! Actually I am not the only one who failed. I got a friend who's CCIE written paper expired and he has to redo the paper also failed. He has both CCNP & CCDP. Another of my friend who got CCNP also failed. The comments from them were the new paper is much more tougher than the older ones. They concentrate more on using concepts and apply it. There are a lot of scenario questions. The latest tips I got was to read and understand rather than memorizing. Must know how to apply the concept.

know your basics cold or don't try the written
it's not what you know , but the accumulation of
what you don't know which will fail you on this test

I think this is part of Cisco's effort to decrease the number of people who qualify for the lab when they have no buisness taking it. They just increase the backlog.
The old written was really easy. Maybe this will serve as a more appropriate qualification.

| Damian, which study materials that you use to prepare for the written?
Thanks. | |
| damiangoh 2002-08-24, 10:23 am |
| Well the 100 Qs CCIE paper was a lot easier than the 150 Qs paper. I was told to study the cisco press books... | |

| Which Cisco Press Books do you use then? I will going for my CCIE Written early next year. | |
|
| Guys, thats the point i am trying to make. The exam is tough, got even tougher now and its even tougher tougher if u havent done ur CCNP.
When you study for the CCIE course it is assumed that you have done ur CCNP, know your stuff inside out and just have to revise the stuff. So you have to work on extra new topics. The CCNP is deep and it makes ur understanding of concepts easier.
I am against cisco allowing people to attempt the ccie written b4 they havent done their ccnp. |
