CCIE Exam Changes?
|
|
|
| Hi there,
Just beginning to study for the CCIE written exam, and was wondering if anyone can tell me if there are any plans to change the current content/format of the exam in the near future?
Thanks,

| The CCIE R&S exam changes sometime in Aug. A friend attended last week's Networkers & found out that the current 350-001 is scheduled to be superceded in Aug with 351-001.
The two exams are sufficiently different that the Cisco IE proctors specifically suggested studying the exam material separately.
The new exam blueprint is available at http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/...utingBeta.html
Good luck

| Thanks Rick,
I have emailed ccie@cisco.com for info on when the changes take place. I was about to buy training material for the 350-001 exam and am glad you have given me this info.
Once again, thanks | |

Hi,,,,
One Question..
I must hope the new version of July or is possible to make examination 350-001 at the beginning of July ( 10 July) without problem.???

The new version will not be available until late July. You will not be able to take it on July 10. Our web site will have more details on the official release date as we get closer to the final release.

Two questions:
1) If the CCIE qualification exam changes in late July, will it include simulations?
2) If I am already registered for the 350-001 exam, and Cisco upgrades it to the 351-001, when will it be the last day I can postpone my exam, and still be tested using the old format?
Thank you.

The new R&S written exam will not include simulations, but it will include items removed from the lab when we switched formats last year. The old version of the exam will be retired when the new exam is released; after the release date of the new version, you will only be able to take that version.

This is more of a functional question than a technical one. I have a question(s) on methods of preparation for the exam.
Is it best to be ready for the lab before you write the qualification exam?
What kind of time per day/week would you suggest for preparation?
Is it better to do a spiral approach to studying where you learn a bit on all subjects then dig down to learn more? Or study all you can about one subject then move on to the next?
Would you suggest doing labs along with your reading? IE: read up on a subject find some labs and do them then go over what you just did?
From a new CCNP to writing the lab is a year of study too much, too little?
I guess it was more than one question. Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated.

Experiences will differ here - one of the challenges of the CCIE exam is that the candidate has to find his or her own "best path" that suits their learning style. Some thoughts, however:
- I'd suggest learning the material and passing the written before working on the lab. The two exams test different types of knowledge - the written is for more theoretical knowledge, while the lab emphasizes command knowledge and configuration skills.
- Regarding the spiral concept. Again this is a personal choice, but I would suggest an overview to get an idea of the amount of material to be covered, and then take the core topics (BGP, OSPF, etc.) that you know will be on the exam and drill down in depth in each one in turn. Spending a concentrated period of time on BGP, for example, will provide a much better understanding and control of the command set.
Additional reading at the same time to understand the theory will help, but don't forget to schedule a quick review close to your lab date - spending a solid month on BGP will not be helpful if it happens 6 months before your lab date and you never touch it again until you've got the exam in front of you.
- Additional reading is always useful, but the key to success in the lab is hands-on practice - reading should support the practical, not the other way around.
- It's almost impossible to judge the time this process takes - it depends on your work experience, the equipment you have available, the amount of time per day, and so on. I would suggest that you can't interrupt the process for too long - to pass the exam you need to reach a quickness with many of the commands because of the time pressure, and this can erode quickly.

HI,
I have booked for CCIE theory exam 350-001. I would like to know whether this exam (350-001) will be still valid for taking the lab as Cisco is releasing the new version 351-001. Also will there be any deadline to take the lab exam with the old version of CCIE theory.
Does Cisco have any plans of opening a CCIE lab in middle east.

Silju:
The changes in both the written and the lab exam are considered incremental - they just represent the exams following the industry. There are no special rules
regarding the older or newer versions of the written or the lab exam.
While we are always evaluating the locations of labs, there are no plans at the moment to open a lab in the Middle East.
