| I decided to change to the security track from R&S.
I am going through the CSS1 track first then straight into the CCIE security written exam. So I`m getting all the Cisco press books for that track "CSS1".
Unlike routing and switching I`ll actually be using almost every aspect of the cisco secure technology in my work in the next year including PIX, IOS security features,IDS
AAA, vpn, IPSEC TACACS+/RADIUS etc etc.
Most networks won`t be using every routing protocol like in the R&S exam, I mean is hard to get realworld access to BGP,EIGRP,OSPF etc etc for most people but if your internet connected then having all the security features you can emplemented is not too far fetched.
Would you agree?
I think with security looming high in everyones mind that now is the right time.
Also its much more interesting "to me".
As an expeirienced CCNP I can get most Cisco products up and running in short order but I have been bitten by the security bug.
Also I have set up an IPSec VPN on a PIX where I work and management likes it which as MArtha Stewart says "is a good thing".

you should do css1 first
then either cissp or cciesw.
personally i did cissp
then r&s lab then ccie security.
when your ready (or think your ready)
grab the boson for the security written.
see how you do.
someone who took it said they were suprized by
unix being there.
i say ???
if you want to be a ccie security. you'd have to
be intimate w/ a couple of flavors of unix.
would you trust dns and mail to m$ ?
nooooo
bind, baby and sendmail.

| Chodan you were going for r&s . Isn't it ? Man i was also having a nice plan to go for CISSP & then CSS1 plus preperation of r&s lab . But these days i am studying for DP & content networking and after that i have to do IP telephony . Too much pressure from the management . In other words you can say that they are forcing me to do these . I am little bit upset about this situation because i was willing to go for cissp & css1 plus ccie r&s . I think so i will get time only when i will finish these . But by that time the CCIE track will be changed i guess so . | |

| I decided against Routing and switching for now, just a personal choice, I seem to feel more comfortable in security.
My plan: CSS1 then CISSP the IESec written then IESec lab.
I like Bind I`ve been using it since version 4, I just upgraded our bind8 servers to 9 last month, it was hard to migrate the zone files from 8 into 9 but once I got the syntax correct it was much easier 9 is much less forgiving than earlier versions.
We now are using exchange 5.5 for email.
Will probably go to 2000 before too long.
I`ve seen several CERT advisories on sendmail, so I`m not sure I trust it as a corperate messaging solution. I am able to lock down exchange pretty well.
I am postponing serious study until august because I am teaching some highschool kids basic networking at a summer scholars camp for work for a couple weeks, after that its full speed ahead.
PS: I took the 40 question CISSP practice test on cert21 and got 80% correct. Is that a good start?

| most of the stuff you can find them on cco, and MCNS, CSPFA, CSVPN, CSIDS you should have them as reference.
written is a cake, be careful with the lab, that's where people show their true talent |
