Quick insight? Get another switch.
The 1900 is rapidly approaching EoS and I believe they're all menu driven. Docs for it back up this belief:

| i also think some switches (can't remember which)
like the 2820 only give you menu unless you run enterprize ios, then you can have a command line. | |

| Try hitting X to exit menu. If this doesn't work let me know and will try to dig up my BCMSN book and look it up.
HTH. | |
|
| Getting a command line definitely depends on the version of code. If there is no Command Line option in the menu - its unfortunately not available!!
To get a basic idea of code, etc, select F. you will get the following:
Catalyst 1900 - Firmware Configuration
-----------------System Information------------
FLASH: 1024K bytes
V5.35
Upgrade status:
No upgrade currently in progress.
--------------------Settings------------------
[S] Server: IP address of TFTP server 0.0.0.0
[F] Filename for firmware upgrades
[A] Accept upgrade transfer from other hosts Enabled
--------------------Actions-------------------
[T] System TFTP upgrade [X] Exit to Main Menu
Thats about all you can get off these things... | |

| Oh no don't tell me fellows . I buy this switch and was suppose to give somebody for his lab purpose but it does'nt show the CLI . then this means that it was better to get a 2900 switch instead of this | |

| any other way to change it to CLI ? So commands practice can be done on that | |
|
| You will need the enterprise IOS. Then it will allow you to choose to work with the CLI | |

| If you are looking for a cheap switch to practice CLI on you can find 2828EN's on e-bay for about 200 |
