| 3640 router. Brand New. New two fast ethernet interfaces. IOS is 12.2(5d).
My problem is, there is no encapsulation command under the sub-interface. Not on the physical interface too. Is this a different IOS or what? Without encapsulation, ip address cannot be assigned to the sub-interface. Please not, THIS IS NOT SERIAL but ETHERNET. I fell that the ios is not complete. What a hell is going on with Cisco. Help me please. Thanks

I think you answered it yourself!! I'm guessing you mean dot1Q or ISL encapsulation, if so you need a minimum of IP plus, new boxes typically come with IP only.
Use the software advisor, entering all your details and this will tell you all the IOS's which do what you want.

| Thank you very much. Short and straight forward. I like answers like that. | |
