Hello guys,

I would really appreciate if someone can give me a hand with the following:

I'm getting a great deal on two 2503 routers from a friend of mine. Problem is, one of them currently has IOS 9.4(?) while the other has a a current version(11.2). I've been told that the old router can not be upgraded to a newer IOS release, is this true? Are all 2503s created equal? or do it can be that the flash rom is not big enough to handle a newer IOS release?

By the way, can someone recommend me a source where I can purchase IOS releases on line?

I have to respond by tonight so I would really appreciate any help.

Kisses,

Ok here is the low down on all Cisco bits (well most routers anyway)

Yes they can be upgraded, however you may have to upgrade their firmware (Boot Proms) at the same time as increasing the Flash memory(the bit that holds the IOS) and the DRAM (the bit that does all the route table storage and number crunching).

All of these items can be found on www.eBay.com or www.ebay.co.uk for a fraction of the cost a retailer/reseller will charge you.

If you need more insight drop me a line or post here or in my forum

Thanks for your reply

Just what I suspected, it may not be such a good deal after all.

I'm gonna try to get the newer Cisco only, if I can. If not, I'll go to Ebay and look for a current Cisco lab.

Thanks again,

Actually, you can order new boot ROMs for 2500 series routers from Cisco for only the price of shipping.
