I am coming to the conclusion that I will eventually need to spring for the equipment needed in the lab; so I ask anyone with knowledge to advise me on the best place to get the equipment. Also, am I correct in assuming that I will need at least 16M Flash - 16M DRAM to have the routers running at least 12.1? I know that 12.2 is on the test, but will 12.1 suffice for all intents and purposes.

Finally, I know ebay is a good source so I need recommendations aside from Ebay.

from Cisco web site:

IOS Versions

IOS features up to and including version 12.0 will be tested on the exam until November 14, 2001.

To keep pace with the evolution of new technologies in the industry, all CCIE labs worldwide will change to IOS version 12.1, effective November 15, 2001. Specific features new to IOS version 12.1 can appear on CCIE lab exams starting on this date.
-----------------------------------------

Now what are the primary differences in 12.0 and 12.1?

Ebay is one of the best sources. You can also check the "for sale" section of groupstudy.com - some of the guys sale their equipment/racks after they have passed the lab portion of the test. I have purchased some stuff from IQsale.com (I think I came across them via an ebay purchase) but you really have to watch the prices when you deal directly and do some comparisons, i.e. you may have to do some bargaining to get the price down but I have found the quality to be good and, when needed, support was excellent.

Also check out network4hire.com, they rent Cisco lab setups.

There are also a few guys offering on-line rack access - try Fatkid.com (provides free scenarios), gettlabs.com (provides free scenarios) & rentarack.com (has some free rack time)
