Here is the deal people. I've tried almost anything to be able to console into multiple router not all failed. Yesterday, I bought cisco system sts-10x access server. Toke it home and never got it working. I've also tried to install another com port card in my computer, failed. What can I get or use to be able to console into multiple router, about 6 to 7 routers. I'm tired. Thanks people.

A 2511 is perfect - it has 16 ports, you may be able to get less.

I helped configure it at a mates and it worked first time - which in itself was a first if you know my track record!!

For really low-cost solution, pick up a Shiva LanRover 8E - I picked one up this week for about 90 USD and it works great.

It isn't hard to set up at all. It uses a GUI-configuration app.

You can pick up a Cisco CS-508 (8 ports) or 516 (16 ports). I got my 516 for about $200 on EBay a year + ago. These are early 90's era terminal servers with 1 AUI ethernet interface and 8 or 16 RJ-45 asynch serial ports.

The only hitch is that the IOS is in BIOS; however, you can get a 10.2ish IOS for it from cisco.com and TFTP it to the CS-516 if your BIOS is old. Those 9.x IOS's are pretty different.

I resolved my problems in a totally different way. Two serial ports from the computer, 2 from the ISA card I got from Frys, 4 from PCI card I also got from frys. The PCI shares IRQ. Total COM port I have right is 8 for about $60.00. There are more that a 1000 waya to solve any problem. Eventually, I may have to get 2511. Maybe when I have about 10 routers, now I only have 5.

The 2509(8 ports + 2 sync serial) and the 2511 (16 ports + 2 sync serial) are popular on ebay, but WAY overpriced. You'll see them go for 600-800. For basic terminal serving, the CS-508 and 516's usually go cheap. 250-350. The big difference, the 2509/2511 uses an octopus(2 on the 2511) cable, the cs-508/516 use normal console cables, 1 for each port.
