Hoon,

this might be a dilemma held by a lot of ppl. I know its one that Im struggle with as well.

My take on it is...

the CCIE has higher risk but potentially better rewards (for the short term). The cert only last for two years and its back to the trenches to bone up for the recertification test. plus who knows what the future holds for technology/cert/value/demand/etc

Master degree has a most lower risk and the rewards will be predictable and stable (even for the long term). plus it never expires. You can pretty much bank on what youll be making and the type of job youll be working and so on...plus it will be widely expected in all industries...

so it really depends on where your at, if you dont mind the risk and short term growth the ccie provides roll with it. if your down for the long haul and would like a stable return on your investment, roll with the masters

look at the ccie like investing in tech stock ( or some other invest thats volital) and the master like a mutual fund or roth ira (retirement savings)

anywho

best of luck on your decision

ps- you think we should ask the webmaster for a GMAT forum???

I've been toying with this as well.

I hope to have CCNP by end of july, degree courses start in september.

Personally I don't feel that I have enough experience to go for CCIE so I am thinking of doing a part time degree until my CCNP needs renewing. There is a local uni giving MSc's in IT and have expressed a willingness to take me with my prior experience even though I don't have a BSc.

Then when I'm up for renewal I will use any studying I have to do as study for both CCNP and CCIE, theoretically I should have 3 yrs more experience and find CCIE that much easier.

Saying that I have a mate who keeps tring to persuade me to go for CCIE next!!!

I shall have to see - hope that helps you both out.

Who knows, I'll probably end up doing MCSE or basket weaving!!
