| You do not need the book for the written exam, but I would highly recommend it for the lab exam. | |

| This book is highly recommended by nearly all CCIEs I've come across. It's one of the best books written on the BGP4 topic.
I've recently bought this book and Doyle's TCP/IP vol.I.
At the moment I'm reading Stewart's BGP4
book as a primer for Halabi's comprehensive text. | |

Which one would you recommend, either the caslow book or the new book from cisco (karl solie).
Thanks | |

| Both of those and the All in One CCIE book. All three are good in their own way and while of course they are redundant in many spots. One is bound to clarify what confused you in another.

| yeskay,
If I had to pick one over the other, I would pick Caslow, because the Solie book isn't as complete as Bruce's book. Solie doesnt cover a bunch of topics that Caslow does. See my review on the Solie book: http://www.optsys.net/cciepractreview.htm
If you can afford it, I'd suggest going with BOTH books. The Caslow book is typically available in a used flavor for pretty cheap. (I just picked one up for one of my students at $20)
