This exam is not as easy as some people make it out to be. There were some particularly nasty bits on it, and overall I'd say it's harder than any of the CCNP exams (harder, even, than foundation,) but that could just be me saying that 'i just spent $A585 and i'm XXXXed if i'm going to waste it...'

Ah well, time to rest on my laurels for a bit and then move on to getting some serious lab time in.

Cheers,

Sid

i have been waiting for your exam since last week . Congratulation sidodgers . Good luck for your lab exam . This is well said that in CCIE written you get questions from CCNP 70 % to 80 % . And which are the hot topics in that ? Could you refresh you brain(not by pressing F5 )

One thing I really love about these forums is how bloody supportive everybody is )
Thanks a lot, man, your comments mean a lot to me.

As for hot topics, without violating the NDA, either intentionally or otherwise, link state routing protocols played a big part, as did bridging, and surprisingly RIP. no appletalk or ipx either. that's probably about as much as I can say without having my arse kicked by The Man.

Peace out, and again, thanks for your support.

I would suggest that anyone who's planning to take the written exam, take it soon before the new exam comes out which makes the study materials obsolete.

I own (read, was foolish enough to pay for personally) the following books:

- Doyle vol 1 + 2
- Cisco Lan Switching (Clark + Hamilton)
- Cisco IOS Bridging and IBM Network Solutions
- CCIE Fundamentals - Network Design and Case Studies (everyone seems to have this oen)
- Advanced MPLS Design and Implementation (not a CCIE book but it's interesting )
- Cisco BGP4 Command and Config Handbook

In addition, I've got a home lab consisting of a couple 1600s, a 2611, and a bunch of linux boxes running BGP and OSPF. Don't have a Cisco switch (got a few netgear 24 port efforts that support VLANs, so i'll give them a go.)

I reckun that should be enough. What say you?

To pass the written, there are quite a few good 'Written CCIE preparation guides' out there which might help you. The QUE one in particular is good, i've heard. Don't buy the sybex one, I own it and it's crud.

Grab a copy of doyle 2 and read it cover to cover. probably 70% of the material won't be on the written exam, but it's all extra knowledge that you WILL need eventually.

Congrats buddy... I remember me taking the written part of the test out. I had alot of questions on Token Ring and Bridging but was kinda easy for me. I went to CCIE bootcamp in Florida and going to another bootcamp in Jan a week before I take my lab. I personally think that CCprep is enough material needed to pass CCNP and help you get ready for the CCIE written and Lab test. My trainer "Lou Rossi Jr.) is the man!!! Later

seems like sometime arround march,
but it's a double edged sword.
i thought that cisco
was admittedly moving more general and and (p)
level skills to the written.

i've taken the current and i felt it was more
a test of your overall graso of theory
than practice.

Well

Remember this poor forum when you get the CCIE and post a message. We all will be happy.
