| i spoke to an employer and he said since the market is so tight right now, its hard for anyone to get a job. He said if I want networking, I'll have to get the ccie. Since I dont know anything about cisco, should i do the ccna first? Then what? I looked in the paper and some tech schools have classes for ccie written and lab. advice please! What about the ccnp? do i have to do that before the ccie? | |

| CCIE has no prerequisites; you register for the Written, take it, pass it, then schedule the Lab, take it, pass it, and... BINGO, you're CCIE!
In your particular case, since you "dont know anything about cisco", you're better off getting a few years experience in the field, THEN go for CCIE.
My 2 cents... | |

| Do your CCNA and finish the CCNP track. Then do CCDA and finish the CCDP track. After you finish those you should have enough knowledge of Cisco IOS to consider studying for the CCIE and even then most people fail the lab the first time. This is the mecca of all networking certs and you should not think it is as easy as going to some boot camp. Generally you need at least 2 years of experience before you stand a chance for CCIE. | |

| CCIE without knowing about anything CISCO I should say you'll be ready in about 5 years. Good luck. |
