All,

This a real life network management Issue...

We need to calculate the amount of network load going through a distribution switch(CAT6509). This switch is connecting all the (2-6506 per floor)switches on 8 floors(via gigabit uplinks). Has anyone done this type of calcuation in the past???. We need to analyse traffic and determine if the distribution switch is not being heavily over utilized. Can we just concentrate in looking the amount of load/traffic that is going through this main switch?? Backplane limitation??

thanks in advance..

Backplane capabilities are available from Cisco. Throughput is best measured by software packages...we use Concord but there are many choices.

8 floors with gig links aren't likely to dent a 65xx's capabilities if it has sufficient memory, so if that is your only concern you are home free
