| Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Juniper networks? Are they worth a look or not? I know that this may not be the right forum to ask this but you lot are the networking guru's and I was looking for some advice. I am currently studying for CCNA and then going for CCNP by Feb next year.
Cheers ! | |

| Andyc let me start by giving you a market strategy that juniper is targeting for and then you can determine if starting the road the juniper path. First, Juniper has realized that like most networking companies’ Cisco controls 90% percent of the small-medium business. So what juniper decided to do is focus on larger enterprise company being telecom. I once worked for second largest ISP company (cable&wireless) that combined juniper and Cisco routers. According to the financial analyst Juniper somehow napped 20% of committed customer, (enough to keep liberals off their back) from Cisco. There are few telecom companies that do house juniper, but because juniper has decided not to compete with Cisco in the medium size business you will not see a large demand for Juniper skills. Secondly, there is not enough documentation on juniper accept at their website. When I attended classes for juniper training in Reston, VA instructor told me that juniper training will be geared towards the ccie program so be prepared to spend a lot of money for class training. | |

| lcooper brings a lot of good points. You will mainly see Juniper routers a ISPs or big enterprises. They make a great core router, better than Cisco, but are very expensive. It is very difficult to get your hands on a juniper router unless you work for an ISP. Also if you look at their site for their cert, most of the reading they recommend it the same for the CCIE exam |
