| Well the one question that results in more than answer. I can tell you darthfeces what I am using to prepare for the qualification ccie exam, jeff doyle(of course),todd lamle ccie written( find this book to be simple and easy to understand, but has some major errors),and my books from ccnp, ccdp training.I am going to take exam by the end of july and I will post more comments on Todd Lammle book. | |

| i have the ccie exam cram and i think it will help
me with repetition with the basics and was @
barnes + noble looking at the all in one ccie guide and a couple of the sxbex lab practice
guides but am not sure about these as the format is changing.
on a different note i am taking the cid in
august and see you have your ccdp
can you give your
thoughts on cid exam ?

I bought the Exam Cram book and really felt like I could have more effectively used the $40 bucks. Personally, I didn't think there was any value to it because it so lightly covers the topics. I thought the boson tests were a better use of my money because of the explanations of my weakest subject: ATM LANE. I have no interest in using my time to learn about LANE. The boson tests went over the facts I needed to handle those questions.
The exam is so superficial that books like Doyle, Caslow, Perlman, etc go way beyond what you need to know. And none of those address Cisco Router operation basics which is included in the exam.
The NP/DP books cover nearly all of what you need to know. Brush up on the subjects that aren't covered there like Token Ring and LANE and you'll probably be fine.

| Mad chef,
Finally someone has said it. That CCIE written is just a little extension of what you know for CCNP/CCDP. I have often thought to myself as I read my CCNP books what is there to learn except every packet size and breakdown of what is in it. (i.e. ridiculous minute details). I confirmed my suspicion by seeing the GLBL KNwLdge offers a CCIE training track and it just has a extra class on ATM and a lab review class other than the CCNP training track. Good to here that I am making good progress with my CCNP towards CCIE written. I know the lab means alot of hands on practice. I do not pretend to kid myself that CCNP/DP will prepare me for the lab.

| thanks to all my fears are confirmed
i will soon take cid then cciew in a month or two and the lab next year as i know i am not ready
and in the new 1 day lab my weak points WILL
kill me.
well more study then the real work starts.
this brings up another issue i might be able to
get my company to pay for global knowledge
acpp which i want for bgp and LAB Practice.
anyone take any stock in this approach ?
thanks and good luck to all.

Think about the enormous waiting list for the Lab. It's probably booked until April 2002 for RTP. One of the reasons is that the written is not difficult at all so many people pass it without having a chance of passing the lab.
So don't sweat the written.

| Booked until end of March....I know because I just booked my date. Dunno that I'll keep it but that's my schedule....
Mad, I agree with you totally on the ExamCram book, because for the first time I found one of their books useless. Caslow's book does go way indepth but he and the others you mentioned are great for clarifying points that ya may be confused about.

PS. Actually there was a date next week if ya want it

What's your date? I'm scheduled for Mar 12 in RTP which is probably pretty close to you, no? Again, I don't know that I'll keep it. I aim to try to reschedule for November.

| I have just completed Todd lamle book for the ccie written portion. The book is meant just for that purpose only to help candaties pass the written test.Todd explains that book is outline with cisco blueprint and I agree with him, however the book has some errors one in pacticular is how todd try to explains ATM.That subject was not written clearly and needs to be rewritten in the next version.I must say that book is not one stop shop to pass the test either,I am using my CIT along with CCDP books which explains interior gateway protocols as well as Jeff Doyle. This book though is the closet I have read that does not over-shadow you with lab theory and pin points on how to pass the written.I think though you still must understand methodolgy of the Cisco realm in order to be successful to the almighty ####. Here I come prometric>>>> | |
