| when the first bit of RII = 1 ,they take the same action, but when it is 0, what is action SRB and SRT will take in different way

| As far as I know, SRT acts as a SR when RII=1. Otherwise, it acts as a TB.
No translation involved, just combines both bridging schemes on a single platform.

RII is a field in token ring frame which can be either '0' or '1'
RII stands for "Routing information indicator",if RII bit is set to "zero" it means,it should follow transparent bridging,or if its set to "1" then RIF is present and it has to follow source-route bridging method.

SRB is differnet than SRT,Because SRB determines the route to reach the destination using explorer Pkts before bridging the pkts,while SRT follows the SRB method if RII bit is set to '1',or it will transmit pkts trasnparently(in case RII bit is set to '0'),I think that may help you.  | |

| SRT works by analyzing the RII bit to determine if a RIF is present. If the RII bit is 0, then a RIF is not present and the frame is transparently bridged. If, however, the RII bit is 1 and a RIF is present, then the frame is source routed. | |

| Hi Guys,
Came across this post and I hope to re-address the issue again. For those who passed the written test, pls verify my understanding..
Am I right to say that to determine if to do SRB or SRT, the Cisco router (or bridge ??) should examine forstly the source MAC address and see if bit 0 is 0 (no RII) or 1 (RII) present ??
With this info, Cisco router shld decide to transparent bridge to to source bridge immediately.
If the bit is 1, RII is present.
So if bit 0--2 of the RII is being examined, router will then decide if it is specific route, all route explorer and so on ??
Appreciate if someone helps to clarify my understanding ..
