I guess I need recommendations on what routers/switches to buy as well. Let me explain my situation.

1. I have NO access to routers/switches at work

2. I am trying to buy used Cisco products for studying purposes mostly, and if they can be intergreted into my home network, great. If not, so be it.

3. I am looking to spend no more than 4-5 grand (looking at www.usedrouter.com currently), and want to purchase as many routers/switches as needed. If a particular router/switch will take up the bulk of my money then I won’t purchase it (Catalyst 5500 comes to mind.) Again, trying to get the most benefit out of my investment.

Basically, what would you buy given my situation? Thanks for any input.

This sure sounds like one of my scenario questions on my DCN test.

I have picked up my full lab on ebay.
You have to be patient and buy as the deals come to you. For the cat 5500, you can go cat 2901, (same sw and commands). ATM lane is off the exam, and for ATM, you only need to know how to give an address and a pvc to a ATM link on a LS1010. The 2502's are good buys and also work well for token ring and dlsw+ labs. www.grandstore.com is also an ok site and they sell alot on ebay.

I have spent over 70k on my lab
I have everything except the 2 fxs cards which I am going to pick up a couple of 1750-2vs for it.

You can always sell it after you are done and if you dont have hands on job you have to do it or dont stand a chance
