good morning group. i am slated to take my CCIE written this Saturday and am looking for any last minute suggestions or directions.

in less than one year, i have earned my CCNA, CCDA, and CCNP. i planned on taking the written nearly two months ago, but have been inundated with work. it seems so common for work to interfere with work.

anyway, i am using the following study aids and resources:

* experience
* knowledge from previous Cisco pursuits
* Doyle and Halabi texts
* CertificationZone
* www.franck.com (CCIE flashcards)
* www.groupstudy.com
* www.cisco.com
* www.cramsession.com
* www.examnotes.net
* Caslow text
* various white-papers
* various practice tests (WanPros seems very good, very thorough, and very challenging)

i feel close, but i also feel there is a mountain of material for Cisco to use for questions. i am still working on Voice, Token, and ATM. i have some core concepts, but want to have a solid grasp of those concepts.

if anyone has a recent experience that would help me narrow my focus, i appreciate you assistance.

thanx, and congrats to everyone who is on their way to #xxxx (soon #xxxxx) or have already got that holy grail of a number.

p.s. though i can't vouch for their applicability until i take the test, i am so far very happy with www.franck.com flashcards. the CCIE set is built from the CCIE blueprint.

I friend of mine from Denver is a CCIE. He told me that one of the main books that needs to be read for the written is Routing TCP/IP Volume I by Jeff Doyle. This is a Cisco Press book. Also, he said that you will have to know TokenRing and bridging and everything about RIF.
I am going to take the CID and get CCDP before I go for the written. I am scheduled to take it in a couple of weeks. Please let us know how you do, and tell us as much as you can without violating the Cisco NDA.

Good Luck!!

that's what my first attempt at the CCIE qualification exam was for me today.

i got a 65 and needed a 70 to pass. let me suggest potential test-takers to not ignore appletalk. i gave it very little consideration or attention, so i suspect i didn't fare well on the 3-5 appletalk questions i saw.

ipx also saw its fair share of questions, including IPX WAN, IPX RIP, NLSP, and SAP related questions.

the other area i really struggled in was performance management. my main failings there were traffic-shaping and load sharing.

a couple of voice (multiservice) questions, but nothing very detailed.

handful of ATM, but again not terribly in depth. i would recommend getting familiar with ATM show commands.

OSPF, BGP, Frame Relay, OSI, RIP, and some other topics were healthily covered, but very do-able.

get familiar with all forms of bridging. i saw no CRB or IRB questions, but suspect that was just my pool of questions that excluded the topics.

RIF is your friend. know it. love it. be able to quickly convert a canonical to a non-canonical and vice-versa.

Cisco device operation should be easy points, but i'm certain i missed some questions when they related to the config register. get familiar with the ops and details of the config reg.

some links that would have helped me:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...m#xtocid1712315

http://www.cisco.com/cpress/cc/td/c...tm#xtocid187214

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...nafr/fr_ch1.htm

http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1795.txt?number=1795

..... i'm sure there are others, but i don't know what they are right now.

as for resources i did use:
Doyle - good info, very relevant to the test
Halabi - good info, very overkill for the test, but good, good BGP info
Caslow - good info, relevant to test, but definitely aimed at the CCIE Lab
www.certificationzone.com - good stuff. very good bridging and token ring infor. very well recommended.
www.franck.com - good flashcards. some redundancy, but that is actually a good thing. as for content and relavancy, it was good there as well.

hope this helps anyone getting ready for the exam. remember, everyone will see a different exam, so this is obviously not gospel.

good luck.

thanx for the supportive comments.

as for boson, yes, a colleague has it on his laptop and let me use it. i only used the first module of test #1, but will likely hit it a bit harder over the next couple weeks.

again, thanx to all for your comments and support.

if i can do anything to help any aspiring candidates, i will.
