CCIE written- which books to use?

| I am taking the CCIE written and wondering if i have all the books necessary for the exam:
1. Doyle's Routing book
2. Lan switching by Clark Hamilton
3. Caslows new second edition (the one containing 3 books)
4. Sam Halibi book on BGP
5. Internet Routing Architecture
Do I require any more books to pass the written?
Thanks | |

| I looked at info on the caslow book at amazon.com, and it's not clear. Does this set contain "Bridges, Router's and Switches for CCIEs"? My understanding is that many CCIEs swear by this book, so I may just have to break down and order it.
Aren't "Internet Routing Architectures" and Halabi's book on BGP one and the same?
Also, check out the recommended reading list for CCIE R/S (assuming that's what you're doing) at
http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/...routing.html#34

| your right madchef. i meant to say Internetworking Technologies Handbook instead.
The one for caslow for $105.00 from bookpool is the latest version and i think it contains the routing book and the switching book and books on token ring and atm. But like you i am not too sure if i need it. Do you know if we need it at all.
thanks.
(P.S. what about the other books, do you have them) | |

Another very frequently recommended title is, "Interconnections," by Radia Perlman. There is a 2nd edition that was copyrighted in 2000. Also, Doyle's "Routing TCP/IP, Volume II," is due to be released in the next few weeks.

| Is it worth waiting for routing II book from doyle?? | |
|
| If you mean "Wait on the new doyle book and get it instead of the current one" then no, don't wait. Vol II is EGPs, Multicast, IPv6, etc. No need to wait. Just get it when it comes out.

| Make sure you lok over security as well, The PIX is in the design CCIE stuff so I am sure it may be in the Routing and Switching arena as well. Is anyone sure about this? I am just going off a list posted by Cisco:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/62...ons/design.html
you may also want to look at Local Directors too.

I don't believe either of those are candidates for inclusion in the R/S lab.

| ok guys.. I am also scheduled to take the written late august and would like to know if the exam cram book is even close to the material we all already have.. I am taking the CCDA test on the 12th and would also like some info from people who already took it, like how many questions and where this test focus the most. Then I have CID to take and would like to be done by the end of this month. I will then have 5 months of hardcore study and training since my nortel training has been cancelled. I heard that the CID test is a big help for the CCIE written test so hope to pass this puppy pretty soon. good luck to all and keep in touch... Madchef: what are you waiting for bro? I bet you are ready for this test since you answer all questions and seem to be very very smart.. go take it man... | |

I'm not interested in taking the CCIE R/S track right now. I'm waiting for the CCIE security track to come out. If the CCIE Security written repeatedly kicks my butt, then I'll "fall back" to the R/S track (as if that were a fall...). At least there I'll have a support group of people I work with who have taken the lab or are preparing for the R/S lab.
I used to tell people that I would take the written when I felt like I was a year away from the lab. I'm starting to build a little more confidence so that's seeming like less of an obstacle at this point. Of course this baby I'm about to have any day now is probably going to put a serious dent in my development time.....

| I would add Cisco Press "OSPF Design Solutions" by Thomas to the study list too.
Have anybody read "All-in-one CCIE Lab study Guide" by satterlee? Is worth the picking up? |
