| This may sound stupid, but can a person sit for the written exam without taking any of the professional exams CCNP/CCDP?......I am just curious and wondered if anyone has ever done it this way. | |

| Yes, and plenty of people have. Most don't today, however.

ABSOLUTELY. The CCIE has no prerequisites. It must be pretty easy to achieve then!

| For historic reasons Cisco has kept CCIE cert open without any prerequisites whatsoever (other than very little knowledge of Cisco equipment especially for the lab exam). So anyone can have a shot at becoming a CCIE instantly ! Just kidding of course but it is true the only requirement is passing the written exam to get to the lab. You can read about all this at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/62...ogram/faqs.html | |

| Cisco has been hinting that all this will change and eventually (read that relatively soon) they will require a CCNP/DP to take the CCIE written.
Don't know when it will, but the change will come....
