I’ve read two books, All-in-One Server+ Certification Exam Guide by Stephen Bigelow, and Server+ Guide to Advanced Hardware Support by James Conrad.

I recommend the Conrad, which is more readable and up-to-date, though I suspect no one book is adequate.

The Bigelow put me to sleep several times. It might be useful as a reference. The CD has 300 questions, but not a single one is scenario-type. 'Nuff said!

The following sample chapters are available from Sybex:

Chapter 2 (Installation) from Server+ Study Guide by Hryhoruk et al.
http://www.sybex.com/sybexbooks.nsf/booklist/4087

Chapter 6 (Server Functions) from Server+ Study Guide by Gary Govanus http://www.sybex.com/sybexbooks.nsf/booklist/2893

Server+ Certification Training Guide by Elton Jernigan is available online at http://www.informit.com/ but you have to sign up for a free 14-day trial period, which involves providing your credit card info. (There’s no charge if you cancel before 14 days.) Perhaps this is an oversight on their part, but you can access the book’s practice exam at http://safari.informit.com/?x=1&mod...&c=1&u=1&r=&o=1

I found a couple of great articles at pctechguide.com:
a) installing SCSI http://www.pctechguide.com/tutorials/SCSI1.htm
b) tape backups http://www.pctechguide.com/15tape.htm

If anyone else has any good tips or resources, share the wealth!

The new Server+ upgrade is scheduled to be released later this year. CompTIA has been upping the anty on all their exams so you can count on the new exam to be a killer.

Some good sites guys, thanks

eucharist, have you tried the Server+ Bible by Trevor Kay? it's a pretty good book.

Anyone know where I can find some good Server+ practice tests?(other than Transender or PrepLogic) I don't mind paying for them but I'd be best if I could get them with my vocher, I've only been able to find study guides with them and not any practice tests. Thanks

Thanx Supertech.

Baka-baka, I've downloaded demo/sample practice tests from Boson, Exam Drill, Examiner, Preplogic, Simulation Exams, TestPro, Trancender, Ucertify, VN Publishing. Some are specifically Server+, others are a smorgasbord of questions from several certifications. Try them out and see if you like them. There are probably others as well.

Cheers.

I found excerpts from several Server+ books at Barnes & Noble.

Most of the them are pretty brief, but there is a complete chapter from Microsoft's Server+ Certification Training Kit.

The chapter title is "Upgrading UPSs, Monitoring the System, and Choosing Service Tools."

The link is http://btobsearch.barnesandnoble.co...layonly=CHP#CHP

Cheers.

I've been going thru Server+ Bible and am very impressed with it. The questions are particularly good. It's worth noting that the author helped develop the Server+ exam. This and the Conrad book mentioned above are a knockout combo.

I've also dragged out my A+ book and found it a useful reference.

One more freebie to note: Chapter 1 (Network Hardware Concepts) from the Bigelow book is available at www.osborne.com/products/0072131616/0072131616_ch01.pdf

Won't hurt to check it out, but after having seen the Bible, I can tell you that the Bigelow doesn't live up to its name. It's anything but an exam guide. Base your efforts on this and you'll go down in flames.

Cheers.

yeah the Cert Bible really cleared some topics up for me and I find it easy to read. I also like the fairly short chapters, it makes it easy to finish a chapter in a short sitting.

I used Exam Essential www.certify.com its great format i wish they did more exams. i passed my server+ in feb. thats what helped me and the fact that i was a server repair tech at compaq before the merger with hpvand they stole our line of servers and gave us the pink slip. but exam essentials is great.
