You set your goals and determine the certifications You'll need to fullfill your dreams....and hit the job of your life, but some people "keep going and going".
See how many certs this guy holds...
http://www.rsnetworks.net/certs.htm
If that is not a world record it has to be close...And I'm still finding uphill to get my third one!!!!
This is just a motivational point for those of us procrastinators

Yea some of us have watched his progress with awe; maybe shock and awe

It's not getting the certs, its paying for the certs in a little money but most importantly time. For Shimonski all of this stuff is a pure business tax writeoff so he can afford to spend the time. If you are a book author you MAY lack credibility if you do not have certs on the subjects that you are writing about. He is one hell of a prolific writer including many of the study guides on this site.

For a few it can be additive like long distance running; a kind of mental adrenalin rush. At some point there are too many to keep current on and the word speciality becomes meaningless. One has to be careful not to become a jack of all trades and master of only a few or worse none. For example I have a hard time correlating the need for 30 MCP exams. That is probably everyone that Microsoft has ever released since they started the program.

Is one an electronic/computer techician, a network specialist, application developer, systems analyst, security specialist, system adminsitrator, Web designer, cable installer or some IT version of the village people. I would guess that he leans towards being a security specialist.

Some potential employers will pass you by if you have too many specialities, unable to decide what you can do really well.

He no longer works in the field. He now lives in a cave and receives visitors who ask IT questions.

Ummm, half those cert's void the one below it. For example, you cannot be a MCP and a MCP+I. You have to be one or the other. You're certainly not allowed to list them both on your bus. cards at the same time. Same thing for the Novell stuff. CCNA and CCNA+Security. If you got the CCNA and Security additionally, you list CCNA+S, not both. It's not as if it was a different track. The core remains the same. And do any of you know what it takes to become a Dell Certified Systems Expert? Thought so. Ever been on the phone with level 3 dell support who are supposed to be experts? My point exactly. The guy lists 3 CIW cert's, of which, you're only allowed to list two concurrently. CIW-associate is one exam. I know, I took it. I certainly wouldn't list myself as having both a CIW-a, and a CIW-sa. You have to take the stupid CIW foundations exam no matter what track you take so if I was a security analyst, why would I list CIW-a; A basic cert that applies to all tracks CIW offers. While this guy has oh, say, tons of cert's listed, you need to strip about half off that list to really see what he has. Yeah, this sounds like a gripe, but geesh, if you're going to list your 'Industry Certifications', list them appropriately.

Oh and this has been up there for ages now. Amazing how he gets a new cert for every new exam he takes. Funny how that happens.
