| Maybe this poll will give eveyone a feel of how hard the test is.
1)Pass 80% or better
2)Pass 75% to 79%
3)Failed over 50%
4)Failed under 50%
5)Did not take yet
6)Not going to take | |

| Failed it but not by all that much. If I had studied harder and focused more on SCSI and RAID, I think I would have made it. | |

| I managed to pass,
I used the Server+ Bible and as many free
online practice tests I could find.
(which were not many at the time and the ones I did find were not that good)
I don't think memorizing questions and answers will help you pass or using transenders or Brain Dumps.
This exam is not like the A+, Network+ or i-net+. CompTIA did a good job on making this exam hard. But it's a good challenge
and I think the best exam CompTIA has at the moment.

| Havent taken mine yet, but when i do hopefully I'll be putting a vote for the Pass | |
|
| So, did S+ increased your knowledgd and chance to work on the Svr and Mf?
What is the most important thing learn from S+ Certificaion?

| I've not yet taken this one - probably start it soon!! | |

| I took the Server+ test today and failed by 3 questions. I retook the exam again and failed by 4. I spent $400 to take both tests. This test is hard (1 - 5 a 4)
Do not underestimate it. I knew my stuff but had trouble applying it to the test. Even www.cert21.com Server+ exam is NOWHERE near the real exam, so they should improve their questions as a side not here, not to mention some of their questions arent defined good.
Im not really sure what to say, the first test i took was easier than the second. Just having to wait 29 more days to retake it is painful enough. Lots of rediculous SCSI, UPS, and disastery questions. I promise this test will either break you, or make you. It broke me, next time it will make me. I found this test easier than the Network+, but the questions are very misleading. There are no braindumps, I used Exam Cram book and www.cert21.com 's practice tests. I scored 87% on those. Id say this is ONE of THE tests to pass.

| Have not taken this one yet, not really planning to at this time. Maybe somewhere down the line. Want to get Net+ and MCSA out of the way. | |
| maface 2002-01-29, 6:33 am |
| Just passed with a 76. Alot of questions on troubleshooting. I agree that alot of the practice questions I saw on Transcender and Boson were not the type of questions I saw on the exam, a couple were but not alot. | |

| 80 questions in 90 minutes with a 75% to pass is utterly ridiculous. The questions on my test were lengthy with answers that were of a combination of A,B,C,D or E. Some of the questions did not even make sense and was not clear. I am not sure about the rest of you but it took me over 2 minutes to read and obsorb what each question was asking. My collegue has already filed a complaint with CompTIA however they said that they will not look into revising the test because not enough people were failing it. Bunch of bull.
This is how I see it:
Microsoft - 2 1/2 hours for 50 questions test.
CompTIA - 90 minutes for 80 questions. HELLO, what are they trying to do. If my job did not require me to take this test, I would shoved this test up the you know what.
| neuralfx 2002-03-17, 4:19 am |
| it's been awhile since i took the test but it wasnt that bad .. its very passable .. 10 years of server maintence is completely unrequired, it defintely wasnt something I would have called and complained to comptia about .. unless they have changed the test a lot, i took in july or so .. I really didnt see anything wrong with it .. ya they had the usual comptia way of wording stuff, but I didnt see any questions I didnt agree with .. well just my thoughts ..

| This exam sounds really tough from what I've seen and heard. I don't plan on taking it. Save myself $199. | |
| Slinky 2002-10-09, 12:41 pm |
| I failed the Beta exam, and I haven't gone back to take it. It wasn't very difficult, but I failed because there were no study materials out yet. So I just walked in with what little bit I already knew and blew it. I could have easily passed if I would have studied a little bit. | |

| I managed to pass with a 78. It's very tough!! Lots of SCSI and RAID. The questions are not straight forward and can be quite tricky if you don't read them carefully. Even then the answers sometimes don't seem to apply or there can seem to be more than one correct choice. Anyway, I'm glad it's over. | |

| I passed this test with 84% Saturday. This was the first time I took the Server+ Test. My impression was that the test was more subjective that previous CompTIA Tests. Often more than one answer appeared correct and rereading the question didn't clarify it. I believe I scored in the low to mid 90's and found it hard to believe I had in the mid 80's. This was the first test I have scored below 90 but what the h .... a pass is a pass.
I took about 60 minutes to complete the test. This allowed for one review of the marked items and one complete review.
Onward and upward to the Linux+ and LPI tests.

Good luck with Linux+. | |

Yes congratulations to both of you guys.. We definitely need to change this grim poll statistic, 24/43 equals only a 56% pass rate. I wonder how it compares to the real global statistic.

| Thought I would revisit this thread and cast a new vote for the 80% and above category.
Passed the test yesterday by lunch time and did a little partying afterward with my girlfriend.
The test is very tough. Logical problem solving is an absolute must for passing this test besides knowing hardware and OS. Glad this test is over.

| Great
namrak takes us to 25/44 or 57% pass rate. Moving on up there.
| rparedes 2002-11-04, 1:13 am |
| Passed the exam with 84% - I prepared for over 3 weeks and I thought I will easily ace this. Just as others noted, lots on question on SCSI, and server+ is 'subjective' because it is strict on procedure sequence.
I put in more effort here than I did for N+ (fared much much better there). The Sybex Server + book (Govanus) isn't enough (unlike for the case Network+) and has over 40 errors.

| My Boyfriend was taking his A+, and had booked it for the next day, so I though, what the hell, and decided to sign up, and then I spent the evening studying and wrote it the next day, didn't do alot of preparing, but my parents pay for my cert exams so it didnt really matter (except if i failed my pride would have suffered)

| He totally kicked XXX on a+, we wrote network+ on monday and both got 820, but I dont think he'll be writing server+ anytime soon, moneys tight, we're both in college and all,

| tomcho 2002-11-29, 1:32 pm |
| Passed Wednesday with an 85%. I failed it the first time with a 72 and was very gunshy about this time around. It is a hard test, as opposed to Net+ where you just regugitate facts, this test requires you apply your knowledge, which is always a harder test. | |
| namrak 2002-11-30, 5:11 pm |
| If at first you don't succeed, try again so good job sticking with it tomcho! Server+ is definitely tougher than Network+ which makes it even more satisfying passing it. Good luck with CCNA and the Microsoft stuff. | |

| I have to say this was the hardest Comptia exam out there, I passed on the third attempt i wasn't going to let this beast! beat me.... | |
| winterwolf 2002-12-17, 11:02 am |
| I took this back in June, passed with an 81, thought I had done much better but it was a very hard test. Think I had about 5 minutes left when I finished
Study lots. I was lucky with RAID casue I have my compaq cert which focuses on that lots too but study study study!
| cheneybros 2002-12-24, 12:28 am |
| Well, I have donated enough money to CompTIA's Server+ cert to buy it...I attempted my 3rd test on last Friday, made a 70% ...yes, my third exam, & I am embarassed ...I think I need to learn a different way of studying ...I have improved each test but have not reached that ultimate plateau...(1st test 60%, 2nd 68%, & 3rd 70%)...I usually finish each test with about 15mins to go, then I go over the questions that I have marked questionable...I find myself changing answers during this time...Perhaps, this is where I am messing up...I probably passed my last exam, but I changed about 6-7 of the 20+ that I marked...I may try it again in the Spring, but I am taking a needed break from studying...I have put in too many hours of geekin' that I have lost my social life...maybe I should get out of IT & go back to bartending... | |
