Having just passed network+,I am going to try to get server+ next.I currently have the all in one book by stephen j. bigelow,and that is basically it.Do you guys think with this book alone I can pass this test? From what I have been reading on this site,this test seems way harder than n+.Thanks for any input.

Howdy Topdog,

No particular book has really come out as the odds-on favorite for Server+. No one book has it all. Some are good, some suck. I would suggest you get a couple of other books, as well. The Server+ Bible by Trevor Kaye is good. Server+ by Dummies by Ron Gilster is good. I'm not a big fan of the passport series. I'm more of an ExamCram guy. Grab the cramsession and Examnotes Study Guides, think of them as expanded study outlines. Grab your favorite search engine and start doing lots of research. There is an incredible amount of material out there. Bigelow is OK, just don't use it exclusively. Cert21 probably has the best practice exams.

Know your RAID. Know your SCSI. Also, if you aren't familiar with UPS's (simple thing to some) and everything that goes with them, get familiar with them before the test.

Hey bud, good luck on that test. I agree much with the previous reply. Know your scsi and raid inside and out. If you have a specs chart (like scsi types or raid versions), memorize them. The big trick to this test is not to out-think yourself. Somehow or other the questions are worded in a way that almost ALWAYS makes two of the four answers look good. Study hard, then trust your first reaction.
As for materials, exam cram has always been good to me. Sybex has a lot of unneeded info (at least as far as the test is concerned), but they have a great practice CD.

other key points...

know how to troubleshoot

***know how to plan out a server room***

learn how to do hardware upgrades (especially the roles that BIOS and CMOS play)
