Hang tough, Corey,

You are not the first to miss the first challenge. You now have a better taste of what the exam consists of. Take the exam report and revisit the objectives. Don't worry about the practice exams. Study.

What topics were covered on the exam? What do you mean by simulation questions? I will be writing my exam within 2 weeks. I have read the Sybex book and Exam Cram book. I am trying to concentrate very hard on the the thinking behind the solutions rather than the technical know-how of things. Would you say that the answers are based more on common sense?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

It's not uncommon for everyone to miss at least one test in their lifetime on the first time around...

Just keep your chin up, study hard and go for it again. Don't let it one test get you down! I'm sure you'll do great the next time around!

P.S. If it makes you feel any better I failed my drivers test the first time around... But of course I'm a woman so what do you expect!

Damn, I'm using the same exam prep programs and I'm scoring in the 60's. What books did you read?

Hang in there.

i didnt even read any books .. i just used some study sheets .. cuz i basically know the stuff .. the practice exams are a breeze .. but the test i had was prolly out of 80 questions about 55 of those where select 1,2,3, and/or 4 .. no single answer questions really .. maybe 10 or so .. and they test was worded horribly .. i guess i expected it to be like the practice tests .. il be more careful next time .. definitely the hardest comptia exam i have taken so far .. and i was already to start practicing and studying for security + tonite .. o well... the answers werent common sense .. they were comptia sense lol

CompTIA always words questions poorly. So you're sayiing like 75% of the exam was choose one or more? Strange.

Those are typical questions, however I don't believe the exam is 75% full of them.

Why do I get the feeling this contributed to you failing the Server+ exam? If you didn't read any books, how did you expect to pass the exam?

i just read a study sheets i found on the net .. and i did well on all the practice exams ..

I've seen those study sheets on the net. From looking at them, they only cover the technical aspects of the exam and leave out the whole "theory of network administration" out. If you read the books you would have gotten an idea of things to consider before, during and after installation. You will not just learn about the technologies network administrators play with but you will also learn to think like a paranoid freak when it comes to data/server security.

i was throughly prepared .. i know the theories .. i was just caught off guard ...
thanks for your insights

Evo...

If it makes you feel any better last year when I took the exam it seems to me I was told there is about a 50% failure rate and that is what COMPTIA wants. This was designed to be a tough test to pass.

The exam focuses on Server room best practices, so you have to know what comptia believes is the best way to run a server room.

I would recommend that you consider writing your own study guide based on the stated COMPTIA test objectives. B writing your own study guide you will be able to determine quickly the areas that you have a great deal of understanding in and those that you will need to do further research in, this will allow you to narrow your study focus. (And who knows it may give you a document you can use in an interview to show you can create some training material.)

Before I took the test I read 3 different Server+ books and studied for more a minimum of 3 hours a day for more than 2 months.

Also, if you look back through this forum to the beginning you will find several posts made by many who have successfully completed this exam.

Good luck on your next try!

Isn't every CompTIA exam like that?

CompTIA is making a great effort to eliminate Recall type questions. Now they strive for Apply, Analyze and Problem Solving type questions. This is why the exams are getting more wordy. It takes several sentences to create context and provide a "scenerio".

By getting rid of the Recall questions, the exam does not lend itself easily to memorization. They are attempting to test concepts and practices. That's why the Server+ is aimed at the technician with 2 years SERVER experience.

Just using study guides to prepare for this exam could be an expensive proposition.
