To all those who have taken the Server+ exam can you give any feedback as to the questions that were asked.

How much of it was technical knowledge and how much of it was more subjective such as what to do when planning or implementing.

I'd say it's something like 65% planning and inplementing and 35% technical knowledge.

What book would you recommend for the test? I've read the Sybex Server+ second edition book and was able to score 90-100% on the pre-assessment test, chapter tests and on the first bonus exam. I only scored a 78% on the second bonus exam which is a failure by the test engine's standard. I noticed the second bonus exam asked questions that were not even covered in the book such as intelligent input/output and which type of PCI bridging is better than the other.

I'm thinking about getting Exam Cram to help me further narrow down what is important and what isn't.

Unfortunately, no single book has emerged as the definative source for Server+. I would suggest a collection of books, study guides and a whole lot of research on the net.

Server+ for Dummies by Ron Gilster is good.
Server+ Bible by Trevor Kay gets good reviews.
Exam Cram is always a good addition.

A lot of questions are scenerio based so experience helps a lot.

I'd definitely agree with Supertech's ratio of Planning and Implementation to pure Technical Knowledge.

Also, if you want a good source on server technologies, try:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/education/...tudent%20Guide/

Most of the info. there is beyond the scope of Server+, but you can withdraw the info. you need to reinforce your study.

I went out and bought Exam Prep Server+ guide and am learning alot about the mental thinking of a network administrator. That's the part I need help on. I know the technical aspects of the technologies down cold. I just need to start being a paranoid freak about security and server room maintenance.

I would recommend listening to SuperTech and going back and reading the posts of the past year in this forum. There are several posts by successful candidates that will help you.

Good Luck!

I used Sybex and a course technology book (which was actually good for server+... go figure). I used the Sybex for a month or so before the exam and the course technology exam prep book like for 3 days before and did great You really need to have a good grasp on everything server room related. Most this exam is using common sense, without that....
