| C. verify the magic packets
ummm packet with a frame containing 6 bytes of FF and the MAC address repeated at least 8 times (tokenring) with a generally standardized number of 16 times (MOST ethernet).
Of course if this is a discrete adapter and not built into the motherboard there is also the good chance that someone forgot to plug the cable into the motherboard or plug in the cable from the power supply. PCI version 2.2 ditches most of the cable stuff if it is fully implimented. I believe that some of the stranger motherboards only support the adapter in a specific slot (2??) to work. However the question did not allow for these possibilities.
Oh yeah an upto 6 byte password may be needed at the end of the packet or the wakeup frame will be ignored. This is optional an varies with model. One other possible got-ya is Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q227674 | |
