I will post some Q's that I found interesting on my Server+ learning, I don't have the answer either. It is not Q of the day, but I am going to try to get a few more guys involved... I hope!

You are the server technician, got into the office and discovers that a drive in a RAID 5 array has failed during the night. The server has the following array configuration, RAID 5 + a hot spare. What is the best first step in restoring the RAID array to its per-failure state? (choose one)

A. Verify completion of rebuilding of RAID array to the hot spare.
B. Rebuild the RAID 5 array.
C. Assign another drive as the hot spare in the array.
D. Get the tape back ready.
E. Replace the defective drive.

Well, I guess we will be play the old game. Are you on?

D. is wrong becaue RAID5, single drive failure is protected. No tape is needed.
E. is necessary, but not the first step.

Care to eliminate the other two?

C is neccessary, but not the first step. You can survive without a hot spare.
B is unneccessary. The RAID controller will have already rebuilt the array for us.

Verify that the rebuild of the hot spare is complete.

The firmware on the controller swaps the positions of the hot spare and the failed drive. The array now contains the hot spare instead of the failed drive. Additionally, the failed drive is assigned as the new hot spare and is displayed as a failed hot spare.
Remove the failed drive from the array as a hot spare.
Either replace the failed drive (making sure SCSI ID and termination is set correctly) or verify the integrity of the failed drive by performing a low level format.

Reassign the drive to the array as a hot spare.
