| I took the exam today and passed narrowly, upon finishing the exam, click on the "End Test". The PC frozed, it took them 20 minutes to tell me if I passed or not... never going back to this testing center anymore. That last time they had power outage... May be just my luck.
Just few notes. I did not read a complete book, appearently the CompTia pholosophy on troubleshooting is important, so get a book on how they do it.
Read the question carefully, pick key words up know who is the person, ie: tech or manager. They approach the problem differently. know if the server are critical, if not, other things may be more important and that will effect your solution.
Know your SCSI spec and RAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Know your back ups!!!!
Know your UPS!!!
Know the server installation requirments!!!
- don't overlook the environment problems.
Know basic Unix and Netware installations!
Know how to connect to Unix and Netware!
Again, the most important is to read the scenario Q carfully. MS always assume the minimum if nothing is said, not too sure if CompTia follow the same...
Good luck to all! moving on...

| 1. How do you connect to a Unix System?
2. How long did you study for in preparation for this exam?
I am thinking about doing it Saturday.

| Good job!
Yes, CompTIA's philosophy on troubleshooting is very important on any of their tests. You must follow their protocol with the scenarios they throw at you.
What other info can you give us? I am interested in taking this exam.
How many questions? What is the passing score and the scoring scale?
What types of questions did you get hammered with?

| Ian, my next cert will be the CTT+, I heared that it is a pain, I want to get the written portion done soon!
Anyway, not to give the questions away, you will need to know that FTP for file transfer, Telnet to get to the Unix box. You will need to know how to shutdown an Unix box.
I decied to take the Server+ and Network+ exams on Sunday, after taking a day off fishing with my son on Saturday... I took both exam today. Then again I have been in this field for 13 years.
I did not read a whole book, which is what hurted me on the WAY that the CompTia wants to fix the problem. I went to Barns & Noble's for two days and used the ExamPrep's exams, read over their Q&A. That was it. I was not well prepared, but I squeezed.
There is a good reason I put "!" behind the Know...
The exam was 80 Q and 90 Minutes, about 1/3 are pure memorization Q's. Buy a voucher save yourself $40. I paid $160 instead of $199.

| Gusy, thanks.
Put it this way, if I would to teach this class, there will be alot of reading for me... This is a quick cert so I can at least list it in the area of teaching... I will not teach this class until I know the materials! |
