| I just popped back in to this forum to see whats happening and am amazed that there are all these little girl posts about how hard the test is! It aint hard, I passed it with ease and so have a lot of others... I don't wanna be a wind up merchant here but has anyone thought of study? All I used was Big Ron Gilsters Server+ book and cruised all the way home. There was nothing odd about the questions either. Perhaps instead of those who didnt make it bemoaning their lot, they could try and draw something constructive out of their disappointment and fnd out why they failed. | |

| Good for you to have the Server+ cert, but Server+ is supposed to be harder than others. | |

| Hey King, long time no hear.
Still a few whiners but a spate of passes of late also. We've been getting some good input from passers and 'almost passers', too.
Heavy study seems to be the key and that experience goes a long way.
What have you been up to?

| I have been tinkering with the MCSA (may as well get my certs from CompTIA working for me!) I have killed off 210 and 215 and hope to have 218 dead soon (whats next??LOL). My department at work was getting axed and due to me being a slight burn out case, I took the money! A slight gamble on my part... But it may yet pay off in the job stakes, although in the UK IT is not the best industry to be working in now and I am getting somewhat over qualified!
(as well as old).
To everyone else! My apologies if my original post was a bit blunt. It is my sincere belief that bad comments on exams such as this can affect the 'nerve' of potential candidates and damage their preparation (It even affected mine!). I stuck to my guns though and am big and ugly enough to look after myself! I suppose its easy for me to lose sight of the fact that not everyone out there has the facilities or the requirements to be working with all the equipment. Although, I felt it was a 'common sense' type exam, I also remember that in the exam I took all the time allowed finishing with 4 minutes on the clock.
When I started out I remember taking the A+ (those were the days!!).. Months of study and both exams in the same day. I still have a soft spot for CompTIA and still look at that as some of my best work! (Bet I would fail it now!).

| When I took the Server+ test it was the 4th COMPTIA test I had taken and I was very happy with the experience. I felt that COMPTIA had put together a really challenging exam. I have no complaints. It was tough, I studied hard, and I passed. | |

| If you are going to be blunt, Im going to be blunt as well. I took the exam four times and found my third attempt to be extremely bogus. And yes, I did let Comptia know they needed to clarify some of their questions.
Out of four times I saw my same questions about 25% of the time. Although the certification costs $200.. its worth to me is $800. Well worth it? To me yes it was.

| As one of the Whiners I feel the need to speak up here. As you can see I have passed two Comptia exams and a few other exams along the way in my career. I stand by my original post. Until the wording is fixed and Comptia decides to test you on your mastery of the posted objectives instead of what the Comptia answer is...You should bypass this exam and go on down the certification highway.
If you really want a challenge go for the CCIE or something really challenging.

| Perhaps if you can't pass this exam, its cos your not ready. But then you know that, right? | |

| I must admit I failed this exam, but I really didn't put the effort into it that I should have and I didn't fail it by much. So I am sure it is doable, but based on my experience with other CompTIA exams, I would say that this one is the hardest of the ones that I have tried. But if you are determined, it shouldn't be that hard. | |

| I am wondering for those of you who feel this exam is difficult...how much hands on do you have? I've been unsure of whether or not I should take this test...but when doing practice tests, I get almost perfect every time. I have lots of hands on in the server area, so I would think it wouldn't be too difficult for me.
Now, understand that I am not trying to flame anyone or call anyone a whiner, etc. I am curious to everyones experience. I may have psyched myself out because of the opinions of this forum
Thanks for the input. | |

| StevoC, has probably made the best point of all here (better than me? lol).
The test wasnt hard, it wasnt easy, it is passable and naturally its failable. Good to have a challenge don't you all think?

I didn't know of any practise exams when I took the test. I just had the Server+ Bible to go by, and no, I didn't have much hardware experience.

| The Server+ exam is the toughest I have taken so far. The reason for this I believe is how many scenario-based questions are on the exam. When given 2 viable options I have a tendency to pick the one that Comptia does not consider correct.
Fortunately I studied like crazy for the test and passed it the first time (barely 78%). Now that I have the Server+ cert I can honestly say it is my most prized certification achievement. Knowing SCSI, RAID, and backup technology thoroughly is probably the only way you are going to pass this exam.
Good luck to those of you that are trying to achieve Server+, it is definitely not for the faint of heart…

| Of the four CompTia certification exams I have passed I think server+ was the most straight forward of all. It was well put together and I found no trickery in their questions. | |

| I am now studying for my Server+ and hope to take it at the end of this month, or the early part of next month. I am (as you mentioned) using good old Ron Glister. He helped me through the A+ as well. Wish me luck and I will let you know how it goes. | |

| Well, I will let you guys know on Wednesday. I am taking the Server+ and Network+, except one at Prometric and one at Vue.
From the CramSession's practice exams, Srv+ have a few more scenario questions. The answer seems to be common sense if you have any kind of server farm expereinces.
And, yes, I will be back at Barns&Nobel tomorrow again...
BTW, to AMDWizard:
Go buy the vouchers, instead of 199 you pay 160... The two test costed me $320, not $400... |
