Attempted Server+ thies morning. Walked away with a score of 64. I'm sure the majority of my peers would agree that failing exams SUCK!! The questions on the different practice exams I took (Cert21, Exam Drill, and a couple others) were of little help, for me anyway. Be sure you know your stuff before you take. I know my stuff, but it wasn't enough to pass. Good luck to all to take it.

Sorry to hear that you failed. But now that you've taken the exam. You have a clearer idea of what to review for more efficiently.
Best of luck on your second attempt

I took the exam last year (failed) and was very disappointed. The thing I didn't like was how very specific most of the questions were, meaning, at first glance any of the answers could easily be the correct one. I found I had to re-read 90% of them just to find out exactly what they were asking. Even then some of the questions were still quite vague. I plan to take the test again this year using the ExamCram (always had good luck with them). The first time around I used the Server+ Certification Bible which I was GREATLY disappointed with. I don't think any of the questions were hard, just vague.

My 2 cents worth.

I thought the questions they asked were very wordy. I am not saying that is a bad thing. I can say that NONE of the prep tests that I took to prepare for this exam were anything like the test. I really would of liked to have tucked this cert under my belt today. Like you, I think I will wait a little while. Maybe I'll focus on MCSA. A+ and N+ will get me out of the elective anyway..

Hi.

I took the test in Mars and failed with 71 %.
This was my 10th test at a test center and I can only blame myself for skipping the last 100 pages in the Server+ Exam Prep book. It is all about troubleshooting and counts for 27% of the test. I retook it in April and passed with 76% (puh, that was a close one).
Somehow I liked the test and the fact that it is a hard one but I learned my lesson and will never ever skip another page. Don't give up if you fail this one, try again. It is a great one to have on your resume.

The key to passing this exam is
good study habits and truly knowing the subject matter.

Brian,

Don't feel bad. I failed this test the first time - I missed it by one question. This is not an easy exam - and the questions are phrased in such a way as to confuse you if your not 100% sure of the answer. I waited several months before I took it again. Your not going to find any tests out there that will help you much with this one. I've looked. Memorize memorize – memorize - Tape size ALL of them – yes they will ask about them. Raid settings and speed, SCSI YIKES - all of them - cable length - speeds - compatibility…

Oh and just so you are aware – I wrote down as many of the questions I could remember - at least the gist of what they were asking right after the test so I could research to see if I had the right answer and where wrong – what the right answers were. I researched them – memorized the information around them – and only a few were on the 2nd test I just took. Frustrating – but hey – I know those details now.

I just took is a second time this morning and was cursing to myself that I’d spent another $200 and would fail it again. I finished the test with 20 mins to go back over my marked questions – there were 33 that I felt unsure. Most of them were questions were you had 4 or 5 answers and they listed 4 options like I and III or II and IV.

I was very surprised when I ran out of time to review all of them and found out I’d passed.

Hang in there.

I must restate my opinion of this exam. If all there was to pass this exam was good study habits and knowing the subject matter why all the fails?

Are all the candidates braindumpers?

I don't think many braindumpers frequent this forum and stick around. They go off to find the dumps that they wont find here. In general we are a more serious, learn the material crowd. Some of the people failing this test have years of experience running servers.

Do all the failed candidates have poor study habits? Too many failing for this to be true for all the fails.

The blame should be placed where it belongs.

Wordy questions.
Too little time.
Ambigeous questions.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with your above statement that many very intelligent and experienced people have failed this test. The wording is HARD. I think they did this on purpose – to make the cert more valuable. A lot of the Tech Mags I subscribe to have called this the most difficult CompTIA test yet. YIKES!

Most of the choices given for the answer are Multiple choice in themselves:

1. I and II
2. I and IV
3. II and III and IV
4. II and IV

And of those choices – all but one is will work – but only ONE is the “BEST” answer. This is where the toughness of the test comes in. You are forced to take a lot more time with these questions than any other test I’ve taken ( Server 2000 had some questions like this – but not the whole test ).

I noticed the second time I took the test I was able to at least eliminate two answers as wrong on each of the questions I was unsure of. That’s much better than the first time I took it – when even eliminating one answer was tough.

It would be great if someone could write some better test Sims – the one that came with Mike Meyer’s book covered Specs – but NO scenario’s.

Just knowing that Ultra2 is SCSI 4 – and the size and transfer speed of data it can handle is not enough. The questions force you to think about how Ultra2 SCSI is compatible with other SCSI devices – when it’s not – and when it’s used with Slower SCSI devices – what happens. Then they give you choices that are all so close – it’s hard to filter out the correct answer.

Cisco just re-wrote their CCNA test and upped the passing score to keep the cert valuable. I have met very few people who passed the CCNA on the first try. I know it’s frustrating – frankly – I’m glad I NEVER have to take that test again!!!! But it looks like it will be a valuable Cert because of it. ( I know – it’s easy for me to say it now that I passed it )

I created a cram sheet that really helped me to pass it the second time. Look for my post – “I passed with an 86 – I created a cram sheet – hope it’s helpful” –

Please use – modify –or use it as a template to create your own. It really helped me to pass this Bugger of a Test.
