usefullness of generic test

| I have become certified via comptias' generic tests but are they usefull? I went on an interview recently where the net administrator had never heard of some of my certifications. Namely MOUS, net+ and server+. It may have been him though, I am currently in grad school(comp info) and he asked what kind of experience did I have. Should I concentrate on vendor specific certs only? Microsoft has a reputation of not supporting test tracks, which is a turn-off. | |

| Most employers have never heard of most of these newer certs. You can expect them to know about MCSE, CCNA, or CNA, but usually that's about it. Most of the others are rarely asked for, and few people even know about them except for us test-takers. Sad, but true. | |

| My opinion.
If a Network admin doesn`t know about them then he is behind and needs to do a little research before he judges resumes and does interviews.
I think comptia certs are good for entry level jobs especially A+.They won`t get you passed entry level without expierience
After that shoot for vendor specific premiere certs. | |

| A+, Net+, and Server+ are now credited toward MCSA. I think that fact speaks to their value. |
