If you pass the beta exam, your record will indicate a passing score and you will receive credit for this exam. Therefore, you will not need to retake the final released version of the exam.

If you do not pass the beta exam, you will receive a voucher to take the final version once, free of charge.

Server+ is just the first step into a much larger world. Most major corporations, that support S+, view it as an entry into their own vendor specific certs. I'm taking the Compaq SANworks beta next Friday then I'm starting on Adaptec ACSP. Storage is gonna be HUGE.
From there, the key word is "convergence".

You missed the S+ beta. It was only $90.
