Hi All,
Please help!
The existing NT system runs on RAID 1 (2 x 9G) with a RAID controller. I just add two hard disks (9G) to a RAID controller.
Then, I change the RAID level from RAID 1 to RAID 5 by using the RAID controller utilities. Under the controller utilities, I can see the RAID 5 configure is ok. And it shows there are 27G hard disk space. However, under Disk Administrator I cannot see the additional space. Disk 0 only have 9 G. By the way, I just use the RAID utilities to do the configuration. I don't have reinstall the NT system.

Thanks in advance.

Did you break the mirror in RAID 1 before changing to RAID 5?
It sounds like you are losing one drive to mirroring and one to parity.

I did break the RAID 1, then change to RAID 5.
The system is working as usual. However, disk administrator show only 9G. But RAID controller utilies shows RAID 5 and have 27 G

Thanks.

What type of server and raid controller are you using? If it is a HARDWARE RAID 1, you dont even have to worry about all this mirror breaking junk. That is for software RAID on NT. What kind of raid Utility are you using? Many times the raid controller has a setup program or BIOS similar to a SCSI controller that you can get into with something like Control+I. Also, many times these utility programs let you add disks, and change raid levels without a problem, it is just a matter of finding the program and performing the steps. Let me know if I can help out in any way, I do this junk on IBM's all day and their raid controllers are made by Adaptec, which is pretty standard. If I dont have the answer, I will find it for you fast...
