This might seem like a foolish question, but here goes...

What exactly is the problem with the wording on the server+ exam?

True I haven't taken the test yet, but from all the comments that I hear, it is poorly worded. I'm not asking for the questions ver batum, but what exactly is it that they are doing or not doing? For example, do they leave out information, or put in red herrings?

I've written quite a few exams and have found the wording in different exams quite similar. Everyone says that the Cisco CCNA exam was very poorly written, but to tell you the truth, I found it quite straight foreward.

I image the responses that I get (hopefully) will also help anyone else that is studying for the exam.

Waiting with bated breath...

I took the exam a few months ago and passed.
I thought the wording was fine,
I believe this exam is based on "you know the answer or you don't"

I used the Server+ Certification Bible and some free online test I used for practice.

When I started out studying for this exam
I didn't have a heck of a lot of experience
I just studied my butt off and made sure I had all the objectives down cold.

But I must say this exam is hard but the new stuff that I learned helped me a lot in the real world...It's awesome. Besides A+ the Server+ exam is best CompTIA has to offer

In a few of the questions I thought the wording was a bit ambiguous. In many questions a couple answers are obvious "no-nos". Be sure to really read the question; don't skim it and jump for an answer.

When studying for the exam, I didn't have tons of server experience, but I do have a lot of PC knowledge. I found the exam challenging, but not impossible. And it certainly provided me with many new kernels of knowledge to use on the job.

See my thoughts on the previous post. Here is an example - the word "environment" in evaluating a server room is used in a few questions. That could mean many things to different people.

Also, best practices type of questions - various scenarios given where you have two options that would work equally well depending on the best practices policy and budget your employer uses for IT. Not enough information is given, unlike Microsoft exams, to make a clear correct choice from two possible answers.

You should consider saving your money and getting server certs from multiple vendors (RedHat, MS, SUN, Novell) before you consider taking this exam.
