A different type of studying for Server+

| OK,
First attempt at Server+ I studied everything and thought any more studying would of been "over-studying". We'll I feel as though I took the wrong studying method. Now I think I got it right. Also I am memorizing 20 questions a day and trying to remember the reasoning behind the answers.
I had to approach this test differently. I hope it works. I studied Server+ certification Bible and Server+ for Dummies. I have SOoooo many notes. What did you guys do to prepare? It doesn't seem there are too many specific questions on the test but rather there are mostly questions on which is best to do first type scenario questions and things like that.
Let me know your thoughts.

| That's the overall approach I took for the test Ian, based on tips I've read from others. Of course, there are plenty of factual information you'll need such as the various methods of backing up, SCSI standards, and RAID configurations. But it seems CompTIA mainly tests your knowledge through troubleshooting scenario questions for the bulk of the Server+ exam. So understanding the thought process of troubleshooting is crucial.
I stated in a different thread that I did not want to underestimate this test, so I read several books for Server+. Through out the entire preparation, I tried to understand what separated one answer from the others. I think you're about as ready as can be for your second attempt. Go for it!

| If you believe that your last study attempt was backwards then you may be right. I always tell people that the secret to the test is not being able to find what you think is the right answer.
The secret is finding why the wrong answers are wrong. The Sherlok Holmes method I guess. When you have eliminated all other possibilities then what is left, no matter how screwy you think it might be, is the answer.
That method of troubleshooting has worked for me for years. I don't remember the exact score however mine was over 90 (low 90's)with less than a weeks worth of review. I did'nt buy a book because I saw nothing new to me in browsing. I did download the brainbuzz doc and comptia doc.

In real world troubleshooting it is absolutely correct that you engage in a process of "Ruling out". As you do this, you either stumble upon the cause of a problem, or you end up with the answer as a consequence of ruling out every other reasonable cause.

| Para los amantes de la cerveza y del buen beber!!!!
FILOSOFÍA CERVECERA:
"Algunas veces cuando reflexiono acerca de toda la
cerveza que he bebido,
me siento avergonzado.
Jack Handy

cometemos pecado. Cuando
no cometemos pecado, vamos al cielo... POR LO TANTO, vamos a
emborracharnos todos e ir al cielo!!!"

| Just relax before the exam. My prep was similar to yours. In situational type questions (which seem similar), go with your instincts. I didn't try to 2nd guess the exam writer.
I prepared a new set of notes to 4 page pointers from the Cert. Bible on the night before the exam of 'absolutely got-to-knows'.
Hope this help. |
