Hi Guys.
Just finished Server+ for Dummies.
Already read Server+ certification Bible.
Got 3 notebooks full of notes. Now I need
to find out what are the best practice examns to use. I have 3 in mind.
1. Transcenders....of coarse
2. Exam essentals..looks decent
3. Actual-exams....skeptical, also I don't
like the thought of Adobe Acrobat when
doing these things. I would like a little
something more real. Although if it is
close enought to the real exam I'll do it
I am just not sure.

I already got the Bosons from Server+ Bible.
So which one would you recommend?
Any others you got in mind. For those of you
that have passed it what practice tests were the closest to the real deal?

Please help. I already flunked it once.
and I studied so hard. I need some real good advice here.

Wow! Three notebooks full of notes, plus the two Server+ books you've already gone through.

I actually think you really don't need to shell out more money for the practice exams. I can't comment on any practice tests as the only one I've ever resorted to has been the Sybex Network+ Virtual Test Center. However, the Bosons seem alright seeing we got a taste of it on the Server+ Bible CD. I think most of the companies have demo samplers so it might be best for you to download them all and see which one you like. Maybe some of the others here might be able to advise on the Transcenders and the like.

Just to re-emphasize, know your SCSI standards/speeds/cabling, backup procedures, RAID configurations, disaster recovery and troubleshooting procedures. Good luck with the test!

I am using two books. The Server plus Bible and the one written by Steve Bigelow. Transcenders are good to find your weak areas and I would recommend them. I have been studying for this test close to 6 Months (only because something else came up and then I continued from there.)I am concentrating on SCSI lengths and speeds, backup procedures and other miscellaneous subjects I might need to brush up on.I plan on taking the test on Sunday (17th). I hope all goes well.I been reading the past posts and found alot of good insight on what is expected on the test. I am working on some old Compaq servers (5000&6500) at home to brush up on building the different RAIDS levels and running backup routines.

poolit: Sounds like you don't plan on underestimating the test. Six months of study should give you plenty of prep time. Best of luck to you come Sunday!
Be sure to let us know how you do.

btw, how do you like the Bigelow book? That's one book I didn't use in my preparations.

It is a very detailed book to read.I've seen it at one of the computer shows for about $20 dollars, so the price is one the reasons I purchased it.The book goes into areas that you either forgot or you were not up to date on.There was new and improved SCSI speeds , processors and memory chips.I just needed a good review of everything. I do have to say, it is a straight foward test now that I have read this book and studied for the last few months. It is a common sense test and now I realised why I missed passing it.I missed passing the test by a couple of questions the last time( which was about a year ago) and so I decided to get my MCSA first and then take the summer off and concentrate on Server plus in the Fall/Winter Months.Thanx. I'll let you know Sunday Nite.

You may also consider trying as many as free practice tests from the web sites listed on the "Top Sites" here:

Whew!!! I am glad this is over. It took me an hour to complete the exam and then I had a 1/2 hour for review. When I saw the score I was quite surprized. I thought I was going to pull an 85. I am glad I studied as much as I did. The All in One book and the Server Bible book along with transcenders really helped me. Also, the hands on work with the servers at home helped me with creating and testing backups and using RAID. My next quest is Citrix 1.8 for Windows 2000.

Way to go Poolit!

I am excited by the recent spate of passing scores. This should serve as inspiration to all those who follow. Good luck on Citrix.

Keep in touch.

Hearty congratulations on passing Server+! That is an excellent score to leave the testing center with. Good luck with Citrix.

I think more and more Server+ candidates are focusing on preparation as this test has proven to be one of CompTIA's tougher exams to date. This has translated into good news with all the recent successful passes like Supertech mentioned.
