How will I know when I'm ready?

| Hi Folks,
Started reading the Server+ for dummies.
I am over 2/3 done. I am doing great on the practice questions at the end of each chapter. Out of like 80 questions I got 74 correct. They are so simple. I hope this helps me along. I already read the Server+ Exam Bible. This was also a good book.
This will be my second attempt at the exam. I really studied long and hard for the first one but I still failed. I thought I had done all I could do to prepare myself. I hope this time I pass. I am not giving up on this until I am Server+. I really thought I was ready last time. I was getting high 80's low 90's on the practice tests. How will I know when to try again.
Any suggestions? Any Studying routines that would help?

| You ask a tough question...you probably won't know that you are ready for sure until you walk out of the testing center with a passing grade.
I studied every practice test I could get my hands on until I was getting close to 100% on all questions. During the test there were times I thought I would pass and times I knew that I had failed. I thought I was going to run out of time during the first half of the test then I hit a patch of questions that allowed me to catch up.
There is a logic (inspite of what others may post) to the way the questions are asked. Look at the posting for Namrak's Server+ question from today. Azimuth shares a great step by step thought process you should used to answer the questions. Read the questions carefully and look for the qualifiers and the distractors. If you know the material you should be able to deduce the answers by eliminating the wrong options.
I can't tell you when you will be ready but,
I can tell you that once you do pass (and you will pass) you will be very proud of your accomplishment because this test is dang tough.
Good luck to you!!! | |

| I say, don't stop until you can ace all your practice exams. You should know all that info cold. no ifs. commit these to memory.
Remeber the CompTIA way of troubleshooting.
The answer isn't always as obvious as it looks.

| I agree with both Lunatic Fringe and Supertech comments. I think what separates this test from others is that it is not enough to think you know the right answer, you must also know why the other answers are wrong!!! | |

See...this sort of thing that makes me nervous heading into my test. I am definitely not underestimating the toughness of the exam. Took a page out of Twister's book and just sat at Barnes&Noble for a few hours reading a SCSI chapter and going through about 400 sample test questions out of the Server+ Exam Prep book from Coriolis. Only two days left until the exam.

That is what I did...
The HOT items that you must know are:
GFS tape backup strategies. When did the tape go offsite and if you need to get them.
SCSI RAIDS spec, you will get at least 3 to 5 SCSI related Q. The is a big item...
A couple Q about troubleshooting server or netowrk connectivity.
You will get around 20 to 25 straight forward Q's. And around 20 Q that you need to think, mark them and go back to them.
Good luck guys, I am glad that there is no re-cert...

| Always nice for a breakdown from someone who's already been in the trenches.
Ian you might want to check out this Server+ exam guide I found here...

If a topic leaps out at you that you're unsure of, grab your book and read up on that section.

| Thankyou for all your encouraging words.
I am going to take a little advice from all of you and combine it into one strong
push before I do eventually take it.
Thankyou again for all the great advice guys. Very much appreciated and it is quite helpful.
