| I sent a message to Bob Moryl at CompTIA to see if we could get a straight answer on the pass/fail rate vs a "politician's answer." Only can see what happens. R/ | |

Me neither, but the response might be interesting. He's the guy that recruits you to join so he may provide a different view on things. | |

| Below is the posts re the pass/fail. Probably won't get any more. R/
Hi Roy,
Bob is no longer with the Association. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.
Those of us in the IT Pro membership group are not a part of the certification exam question development process. The advice you were given by our Certification Department (I refer to the "politician's answer") is sound. I would further qualify, that while a 100% correct score is admirable, it's not always a useful goal as it can cause undue anxiety. Truthfully there is no way for us to ascertain whether or not you are ready for the exam, however it sounds like you're preparing yourself appropriately. After you take the exam, you are welcome to contact the Server+ program manager, Carl Bowman, if you find a question which is arguably ambiguous.
I wish you success on your exam, and welcome any comment or feedback regarding membership benefits and services.

Subject: Question Unanswered
Bob,
I copied this e-mail from a newsgroup where the individual asked a question about pass/fail rate and got a "politician's" answer. How about a straight answer re below listed e-mail? R/ --RSG--
I have been studying for the Server+ certification for the past 6 weeks I have several years of experience in the computer industry and over 2 years of experience working with an AS\400, Novell Netware and MS Windows NT servers. <http://>I do not have any experience working on server farms. <http://>I am familiar with SCSI and various other server technologies. <http://>I have read 2 different certification books and have read numerous articles concerning the technologies covered on the Server+ exam. <http://>I have started reading a 3rd Server+ certification book yesterday. <http://>I am planning on taking the test in the middle of September. <http://>The information from the books I read, along with the experience that I have leads me to believe that this test should be fairly straight forward. <http://>I want to make sure I am prepared for the exam and pass it on the first attempt. <http://>However, recent comments from other candidates who have already taken the test lead me to believe the test is less than straightforward. <http://>I have heard that a lot of the questions have more than one answer that is technically correct, however the test asks for "choose the best answer". <http://>I have also heard that the questions are somewhat ambiguous and provide incomplete information to arrive at a clear choice for an answer. <http://>I would like to know the validity of these claims from other candidates. Everyone seems to agrees that the certification is a valuable certification and I want to make it clear to you that I am not interested in taking any shortcuts to certification, however ------$190.00 is a lot of money to spend to find out that I am not prepared on the day of the test. <http://>
I would like to know what the pass fail ratio for this test is as well as a response to the claims that the test is ambiguous and incomplete. <http://>

The following is her response:

I suggest that first you look at the test objectives and compare them to your study materials. This way you can be sure that they are complete. Please be aware that CompTIA does not write any training materials, this is all done by third party vendors.
Server+ is a tough exam. It has to be. You want the best people to be fixing your server. I have some advise for you. Look at the whole question and answers there is either a "distracter" which will rule out an answer and a "qualifier" <http://>that will validate that you have the correct answer.
I wish you the best on your exam!

Any way that was my attempt and the response at getting the pass/fail rate and a little piece of mind that I had a chance to pass on the first try. I must have been naive to think they would actually tell me anything helpful

| Thanks for the follow-up post nOrg! Its pretty much what I expected as in terms of helping anyone individual out. However, it may eventually bring attention to the right people who do make the tests. | |
|
| Also, thanks for that thought provoking questions and the answers that followed that shows a good example of deductive processing. Hope to take the exam within next month. R/ |
