| I was doing a practice test and came across the following:
How do you shut down a Netware server if files are open?
The suggested answer is shutdown /f.
I think a netware server will ask you if you want to continue if you use the "down" command and a file is open.
Does anyone have a netware server in front of them to confirm or deny this?

| Though I haven't got a netware server in front of me the command I would use is "DOWN" to shutdown the server if I was going to carryout maintenance. | |

| I agree with Frank, Everytime I've used a Netware server and had to shut it down (which is rarely ever) I've used the DOWN command. | |

| From a text book I have
that I used for the Server+ exam
for shutting down a Novell server,
it says to enter the "down" command to start the shut down process. Once that has completed you can type "exit" to shut the server down completely, or you can type "server.exe" to restart the server.
Hope it helps | |

| Also you can type
RESTART SERVER
at the console command line to restart the server. All others are correct as well.

| I have not worked with Novell 5 (I got my cert under 4.11 intranetware), but from what I can find the only reference to shutdown is that there is a shutdown.ncf that runs when the down command is issued (if it is in the :SYS) and this ncf will issue commands to the system during the shutdown process, I suppose so you can perform automated tasks, like locking login and kicking people out, etc. | |

| Hi there,
The command for shutting down a Netware server is Down. I'm not into Novell. But this is all I used when i was working on that environment to shut it down.
Luv n Luck
