| Well Bat,
I guess it all depends on what you do with it. As a certificate on the wall, it won't do much for you. If you use it as a metric to gauge and demonstrate your professional developement, it works very well. Certification, for its own sake, doesn't hold much value. It is the knowledge acquired and the skills demonstrated that serve us. pretty deep, huh?

Gary Govanus' Server+ Study Guide (Sybex) and the All-In-One Server+ Study Guide.
The included practice tests aren't anything like the actual exam. Get the concepts, though, and you'll pass the exam.
(Or, if you're expecting something similar to the A+/Network+/i-Net+, you'll scrape by like I did )

| Congrats on the pass Dagger!
Kasor,
I too liked the Server+ Bible most, but All-in-One had some good info too, but, for me the reading was too dry. It is actually an excellent in-depth reference manual though.

| Thanks darthw
I agree with the All-in-One as well
it was a very in-depth book.
They should just rename it and take out
the exam references and the "+"
and just call it Server All-in-One....

| ya i passed this test, if you'd like you can read my post jus after passing it
http://www.examnotes.com/forums/sho...&threadid=20526
i havent had a whole lot of actaul experience with servers, im a hardware geek basically, already knew a good bit bout raid, i jus use the examnotes on this site, and cramsession, and researched the various topics like SAN's and what not on the net, its probably comptia's toughest test, either that or the Linux+, but its very passable .. as far as study materials, the books are good, especially if you are new to the material covered, but if you are really jus wanting to pass the test, a 900 page book, would be overkill really, in my opinion .. jus my 2cents, good luck ..

| Just took the test this morning. Tougher than expected, and I just squeaked it with 80% (75% is required).
Being both MCNE & MCSE, I thought it would be easy - but Server+ is not about server operating systems. Instead, it covers the stuff Novell & Microsoft both skip: server room environment, storage systems, back-up schemes, server hardware troubleshooting, disaster recovery, etc.
So even with a good background in Server OS's, I found Server+ to be challenging and rewarding.

| Congrats on your pass.
I'm just here observing. I need to find a direction to continue in after i-Net+ (I'm scheduled about a week away). I'm afraid of just piling on paper w/o having a job using any of my knowledge!
Anyway, good to hear all this about Server+

| Taking Server+ test tommorrow... im doing what i did for the Network+, stay up three days and let the information store in my brain then release it all into the test.
Id never take the test if I didnt feel as if I had proper in-home hands-on training
Time to add this final "important" CompTIA certificate to my wall of fame. I expect the test to be as grueling as the Network+.

| Interesting thing I'm finding that may make the cost of the Server+ exam more worthwhile...
I'm now studying to take Service and Support for CNE and a good chunk of the material (the non-Netware info anyway) is very similar to what I studied for Server+. The end result is less time studying for this exam.
I know N+ is used as credit toward Networking Technologies for CNE, and Server+ is a MCNE cont. ed. certification, I think. But hey, if I learn something for one exam, and have to spend less time to prepare for another exam, I'm all for it |
