You were a little vague about the MCP course you are considering. Technically, you achieve MCP status as soon as you pass your first Microsoft exam (such as 70-210 for Windows 2000 Professional). As to whether it will further your job opportunities, that will depend on the job you are looking for. If you are already experienced in the computer field, then a certification merely adds an additional "look at me" to your resume. If you are just getting started or trying to change careers to computers, a certification is a way to tell potential employers that you have invested some time and effort to prepare for the position you are seeking. The main thing, in my opinion, is to not depend entirely on a certification to accomplish your goal.

Good luck in whatever field you are pursuing.
